If your friend put your car in "park" while moving he would snap the parking pin and your car would roll even when in "park". If he did not actually fully place the vehicle in park but just rode on the pin to make a grinding sound, but did not snap the pin, everything should be ok. Does park still work?

Does he drive a stick? Ask to drive it. Get going 65 mph, get out of gear, release the clutch, and jam it into 2nd.

Or you could just pants him.

Hope your car didn't suffer terribly.

Hmm.... my babyG is at the dealer today for some annoying rattles from the rear speaker panel, rocking driver seat, and squeaking wiper blades. I don't think the parking pin snapped ... would've heard a loud crack ... but then I haven't parked on a slope yet. Will try it when I get her back. Of course I didn't tell the service guy about the incident ... didn't want to look like an idiot ... thought I would get some advise from you guys first. Yes ... I think we should hang my buddy ... but in the meantime, since he works at detailing shop ... gonna make him wash and wax my G first (told him he owes me 10 washes at least). Then we can all pummell him for all the G owners out there.

Re: Goin 65mph in PARK!!!

My ex-girlfriend's grandmother accidentally hit her Camry into reverse while moving at about 50mph once. I saw it and held on for dear life, not knowing what to expect. To my surprise, it didn't do anything. The car seemed like it went into some sort of nuetral mode, and only slightly bucked at first when she was still pushing the gas. After she let off the gas, it just coasted. Then she put it back in drive, and all was well. I about s**t my pants when I saw her do it tho.

Let's see. Maybe this is what he was thinking....
"D" = dirt road
"P" = pavement
"R" = race

Re: Goin 65mph in PARK!!!

I've seen someone in an old 280Z with the 5-speed do something like that. Reverse is right behind 5 on those, and they didn't have the safety lockout to keep you from pulling it straight back from 5 to R. She'd get up on the freeway.. move through the gears.. and next thing you know, *grrrrrr* "oops"

You might want to flush the tranny fluid, just in case some metal shavings or something bigger was broken off.

Re: Goin 65mph in PARK!!!

Thanks for the heads up. I usually have a beat around car and usually check them in a stationary position to see if you can move the car into park or reverse with engine reving. On
all of these cars including my 93 Dodge, there is a lockout to
prevent this. So i'm surprised that our G's don't have that.

Got mine 7/25/3 with Brilliant Silver, A/T, Prem and Nav, Sport
Package.

Re: Goin 65mph in PARK!!!

dunno why this post was brought back from the dead, but i am going have to claim:

wouldnt you have to go through reverse to get to park? i dont know how the 5at on the g works, but usually there is a catch at nuetral to stop an at from going into reverse. you would have to purposly bypass the catch (no even sure if this is possible when moving that fast), go through reverse, then into park!!!

Re: Goin 65mph in PARK!!!

yah ... there is a catch going past neutral into reverse. But not if you hold down the button on the shifter (like when you get it our of park into drive). Yah ... so, needless to say, he's not my friend anymore. Though, looking back, I shoulda just decked him on the spot.

For all the kids at home ... don't recommend throwing it in PARK while you're driving.

7000 miles later, there doesn't seem like any problems with my G. Tho average 15-17 mpg does seem kinda low. waitin for the 7500 checkup.
