The lowest i can find is one with 80,000 miles for $1,000 and then the shop would put it in for $450. Should i go that route?

Sounds kind of high $ for a used tranny, but if that is all you can find.

Money well spent!

Find a quality trans shop and have yours rebuilt! Buying a bone yard trans is a "crap shoot," having yours rebuilt you'll have a guarantee on replacement too...Gary

AustinErkl, valve body's can be cleaned and all those ***** and springs replaced that's part of the rebuild process. Our ATs operate on line pressure that's why it's important to drain/fill your trans more often than Nissan recommends especially in warm/hot climates...Gary

Have your AT rebuilt and stop second guessing yourself!

Question should be...will ebay pay to remove that high mileage AT when it fails? What are you getting with a AT that has 80K miles on it, how was it treated during it's life...was the fluid ever changed? We have members frequently asking if they should change the fluid on their AT with over 100K miles that has never been changed. Scary thought!

Wanna hear a scarier thought, I've myself replaced radiator, radiator hoses, wheel bearings, starter, alternator, radio, oil, brake pads, rotors, battery, window motors, belts, spark plugs, lug studs, air filter, head light bulbs, repaired wiring, and probably many more things I can't think of but at 272568 miles I've never once replaced or even checked my transmission fluid. I've never had any problems with the transmission and now I'm kinda afraid the 16 year old transmission fluid is holding together problems I don't even know about and if I replace the fluid the transmission will be done for

Since you're closing in on 300K miles I say don't touch the tranny. I believe if you flush and replace the fluid it won't turn out well and you'll probably need to replace the transmission.

Yea I've read that before, where a transmission fluid change caused problems.. I've tried to drive in a way that's easy on the transmission since I got the car at 50000 miles... I learned my lesson with my previous car a 2001 eclipse which I drove like a racecar destroying the transmission at 150000..... I'm only thinking about the transmission now because sometimes when I start off I hear a rattle under the car while pressing the gas pedal. I still havnt found a definite answer about what it is.

Usually stuff like that is exhaust, you're not going to hurt the transmission by changing the fluid as long as you only do a drain/fill and use Matic-J or Matic-S. In fact it's supposed to be done and will extend the life of the transmission.

Here's a reply I wrote on another thread about where this misinformation comes from any why you should change the fluid. It's one of those things like "once you switch to synthetic oil you can never go back to conventional", complete myth.

Getting 300k out of an automatic tranny is just a measure of how hard you are on the clutch packs, you've obviously been driving in a more rational manner in the G35

You're not fully to blame for that Eclipse failing, the third gen ones were notoriously prone to mechanical failure. So sad to see how far they fell from the 2nd to 3rd gen.
