Dupli color caliper paint kit

So I decided to buy the dupli color brush on caliper kit prepped my calipers good and started painting ! The first coat went on smooth it said to wait 15-20 min between coats and I tried the second coat at 20 min and it started pulling the first coat off I decided to wait a little longer between coats but no matter what I could not get an even coat after the first . I waited for the 2nd coat to dry to the touch and added the 3rd coat carefully . Let them dry for about 8 hours and they look like ****! So uneven and has so much texture to it . Has anybody had this problem and is there a way to fix it without stripping off all that paint ?

Is it possible to wet sand them after they cure the full 7 days ?

Hey bud I used the kit on my calipers when I did the Brembo calipers. And it worked great...

You didn't prep the calipers properly :/.

Clean them as recommended and try again dude. Powder coating is the best option.

Damn I hit them with a wire wheel so I know they were clean . They got too saggy and some paint was runny . Anybody try wet sanding and then applying another coat ?

You should try out the G2 kit. I have used their kit on engines & calipers and it lays down smooth even if you brush it on. Requires minimal prep work and the first set I did was over 7 years ago and they still look really glossy! Its probably a little more expensive than your run of the mill kit or paint but its a do it once and be done. Well worth the extra few bucks in my experience.

Since then I have used their kit line on 4 different sets of calipers and recently painted a sea-doo engine with no issues. On the engine and last caliper kit I sprayed it with a preval disposable sprayer to cut down on the time required to apply but you can use the brush as well.

You may have "cleaned them" by scratching at them, but did you use an acid wash and alcohol prep?

This actually makes the surface ready for paint, otherwise you are "putting makeup on a pig."

hahaha, funny but so true!

I usually use 80/20 alcohol to water for calipers before painting. Honestly I use alcohol for damn near everything. You can cut it 50/50 and clean just about anything in your home/every day life. You can even use it to de-ice windows in the winter "way cheaper than de-icer". I buy alcohol in bulk via amazon LOL!

It's in most de-ice products... It's good for everything... Except drinking don't do that...

It had to have been 8 years ago I sold my Volk GTCs and installed my SF Winning and decided to paint my calipers. Used the Dupli Color Engine enamel rattle can, cleaned my calipers with carb spray and masked everything off I didn't intend to spray. Today they's still dark blue, (no cracks or chips) I clean them with wheels off once a year. Painting calipers is easy if you use the right products, you don't need more than 1 coat if it covers!

+1 on not having the calipers well prepped. Are you sure you mix in enough hardener as well? Did you let it sit/catalyze long enough before you applied it? What room temperature did you paint them at?

I have also used G2 caliper paint and worked beautifully.

I sand blasted mine, then cleaned them with brake cleaner and then painted them.

What was the humidity outside that day? If high, it wil take a long time to dry.

I painted a set of calipers using that paint, and it took a while ot dry between coats. You pretty much need to paint a coat on, let it dry completely then clean and recoat again. If the paint doesn't fully dry it tends to pull when you reapply it

back in my rice days i painted my caliper with g2. its pretty simple and dummy proof. i didnt even prep the calipers lol. its thick and very easy to apply smooth. shouldnt even be able to run. thats all i recall.idk wat u did op. did the spray method too, easy but a bit messy. paint was better.
