I'm new to the forum and Nissan & Infinities so I'm really hoping I can get some help or get me in the right direction .


Background of vehicle: 2003 G35 Coup 180K miles Auto: The vehicle is my nephew's stationed in Baltimore in the Coast Guard. It's sat for about 1.5 years but since my nephew is coming back home I want to surprise him and fix all the issues he was having and fix it up some before he gets back. When I got it from his mom's house after putting a new battery in it started right up and I was able to dive it to my house. Over the past 1.5 years he had said that he was going to scrap it for $1,000 because he's frustrated with it but I know he loves that vehicle and don't want to see that happen and willing to put in as much money as my wife will allow me to fix everything and get it in good condition.




The Issue: Before he left he said he might have a short because his battery kept dying even after he put a new battery in. So I put another new battery in and it started right up and ran great bringing it to my house (4 miles away) but after I got home I smelt a plastic/electrical burning smell so checked everything out and noticed the battery cable (100A terminal) was smoking and melted. I've searched for wire diagrams that show where the cable in the 100A slot goes and can't find anything I've also searched the forum 1st to see if anyone else has had this problem but didn't find anything. I've sourced the new fused cable block but without knowing where that wire goes to and replacing that also I don't want to put a new block plus with everything melted I need a new cable also.


Can anyone tell me where this wire goes to? Anyone have a source on where I can get one or if anyone has a wrecked vehicle that I can buy the wire, harness etc.

Give that a shot. Problem is you don't know if it will happen again. You're going to have to get out there with an electrical tester and see if you can find the problem by doing a bunch of tedious tests on wires going from the battery to all over the car and look for a short.

I was wondering if you had found a solution to this issues, if you had to replace the hole wiring harness or if you were able to somehow salvage the original harness ?

 

Typically when this happens you just salvage a section of harness off a donor vehicle and splice it onto your car. Solder/splice, do NOT crimp with a cheapo butt connector.

You can also use a mechanical lug butt splice if you're really not comfortable with soldering (look up a youtube video it's absolutely simple.)

Both styles of connecting wire will require shrink tube, again, watch a video if you're uncomfortable with the process it's incredibly easy.
