Re: Watch out for car washes!

Couple of other members have had similar experiences. Don't know why you would want to take such a fine car through a carwash.
Did the carwash offer to pay to fix at least.
Hurts me just looking at the pic.

Re: Watch out for car washes!

Was it a touchless wash or one with the big strips that rub over the car?

Was is the high pressure water sprayer or the blow dryer that you think did it?

Do you think it was a defective rim? That sucks to have a car wash do that.

Car wash? I wouldn't take a Yugo through a car wash.

One of those car washes that "guide" and pull your car when you drive into a "track", right. The ones with the rail? Happens every time....

Dude I can't believe you would even take this car through a car wash... Sorry to say that you should have known something would get scratched or beaten... Doh!

i took mine to a car wash for the 1st time. it was a rail system also. i i looked over the car and it is fine. rims are good. i have the sedan(sport wheels) though and the spokes dont stick out like they do on the coup.

Re: Watch out for car washes!

Yep, it was a rail system and I'm pretty sure that it got jammed on the entry guiderail which is a metal pipe that narrows in to the track. The track itself is rubber/plastic coated.

I was debating letting them do the car the whole time, but this wash used to do a pretty good job my Zs in years past and so I trusted...

The car wash manager would give me NO satisfaction. He said that it must have been there before I came in. (Of course! I have nothing better to do than rip them off for a wheel.)

Needless to say, I was pissed.

I called Infiniti and they can fix the wheel (sending it out to a repair shop to get new paint and clearcoat) for about $300. I am calling the car wash corporate management and my insurance company on Monday.

I just thought I'd give a warning to all the other G35 Coupe drivers out there... resist the temptation for immediate gratification in a clean car for $10. The coupe's wheels are painted and clearcoated and are not just shiny metal. The paint can get gouged off and you'll end up with an unsightly mess like this.

Don't let it happen to you...

Re: Watch out for car washes!

I went through one car wash with the "guides"...worked great till I pulled out and I heard a crunch from underneath the car. The guide was too tall and scratched down the side of the ground effect/molding. Thank goodness it didn't break or crack and the mark is no visible. The touchless car was here though doesn't have a rail system...it has a sensor to tell you to pull up.
