6mt doesnt stall/drive in gear, shifts without clutch engine on
Hello everyone...
Recently i got a problem on my newly purchased 04 coupe:
The car started to loose power while driving (slipping clutch), after that i replaced both cylinders and the problem went away for 2 days. Last saturday while driving down from the car meet, the smoke and clutch smell came out from the car. I pulled down to the side of the road. After that the car stopped stalling in gears (ex. The car is in any gear you release the clutch pedal and nothing happens:nerd: The engine didnt stall). Also when i press the gas, car doesnt move at all (motor revs, wheels dont spin). And the third thing is that i can shift into gears without clutch in when the motor is running .I have never seen those 3 symptoms at the same time in any thread. I was thinking that may be my clutch is disengaged all the time that would explain everything, but i cant start the car without pressing the pedal, which wouldn't be the case if it would be already disengaged, isn't it? What do you guys think, what might be the issue? Do you think it might be the falt in pressure plate, that doesnt engage the clutch fully anymore, thats why it was burning all the time while driving, before it burned complitely, or may it be the problem in the cylinders, I order the clutch kit and flywheel already, but i still want to understand what's going on. Thanks a lot
Andrey

Front and rear cameras, tire pressure for all four tires can display on screen, folding side view mir
Best to have a experienced pro do the work
There is a clutch interlock switch which prevents the car from starting in gear unless the clutch pedal is depressed.

Yep, smoked the clutch, been there when I was younger
Best advice I can give is to remember EXACTLY THAT FEELING when a clutch slips, when you start to feel the slip you need to stop driving the vehicle, you can slip a clutch for about a full minute before you let out the magic smoke and get stuck on the side of the road. It's impossible to put that smoke back into the clutch.

Get the vehicle on a lift, have someone press the clutch while you watch the slave cylinder, if you see the piston working the clutch fork then nothing is wrong with the hydraulics. If you can shift through gears with the engine running and the clutch not engaged however then something else is broken. Either the clutch plates are worn to nothing (even then there is usually a hook up and a lot of noise from the backing rivets grinding the flywheel unless you REALLY REALLY REALLY smoked the clutch lol), or the pressure plate springs broke/overheated, or the linkage is broken, or the input drive gear shattered in the transmission (makes sudden horrible death sound when that happens), or the shift linkage shattered inside the transmission (makes constant horrible death sound in the transmission as metal eats metal), or a handful of other possibilities. There were a few obvious signs of clutch failure however:
-You said the clutch was slipping, which is not an issue with the hydraulics from the CMS/CSC
-You said it smoked and smelled like burning clutch
When the CMS/CSC starts to fail you typically start having harsh engagement shifting from one gear to the next because the clutch is not being fully disengaged, it is STRONGLY recommended to replace BOTH as well as all fluid every time you replace the clutch/flywheel. When those two begin to fail it causes excessive clutch wear and simply sitting at a stoplight with the clutch depressed can actually smoke the clutch since it begins to NOT fully disengage. This is also why it's strongly recommended to not sit at a long stop with the clutch depressed, shift to neutral and release the clutch, it's less wear on the hydraulic system.
It's really not that hard to pull the transmission on this vehicle and you'll know immediately if the clutch friction plate is destroyed.
Don't replace just the CMS or the CSC, replace them BOTH as well as the fluid.
