Looking to do my first mod on my new G35 and was curious if this with a stock airbox and K&N filter would give a nice boost in performance and sound?

I actually noticed a surprising tone change in my car's exhaust way back in '05 when I put the Z-tube in my car. I never thought that it would make such a difference, but you can definitely hear it. Sounds more like the noise you expect from a 350Z exhaust than the somewhat quieter G35 in the midrange after the "upgrade".

You do not want the Z-Tube you posted! Any metal intake will cost you HP the minute your under hood temperature increases. When it's really hot there's a possibility of being passed by a old VW bus...as an example! Stillen makes Z-Tube that's not effected by heat since it's made of plastic composite, they're perfect for our G35s! All the Z-Tube does is change the sound with little or no HP increase, but the sound is cool!

Air is one of the worst conductors of heat. If anything it's an insulator. It's not going to pull any heat at all from the surrounding material of the pipe with the engine running no matter how hot that pipe is. The air is flying through that short pipe at such a high volume that it will only be in there for a fraction of a second. What matters more is where it's pulling the air from and that there is minimal resistance in the flow path.
