First of all, let me explain our "conversation".
I never said the Z was better than a porsche. In no way shape or form would I ever think the Z was a superior car. I have driven several porsches. I was comparing the BMW M3 to a lower model Porsche. My friend owns a 2003 M3 fully loaded and although it's SMG, it's an incredible car. The conversation was taken WAY out of context, and Kelly failed to mention what was originally said.
I am 25 years old, own a beautiful apartment in SOHO (NYC) and make more than enough money for either a 35th Z or a G35 6MT. When I am looking at purchasing a "depriciating asset", I look for the best all around deal. I knew I wanted a sporty car as a toy, and I was ultimatly led to the Z or the G.
With that being said, our conversation had started with my pointing out the fact that I test drove a Z and had preferred it over the G35. I showed her a beautiful picture of a silverstone Z and pretty much got slammed for it. I happen to prefer the sportier ride/feel, it felt a bit lighter to me and overall it seemed to feel like a faster car. I also test drove the G35 last week so I had a basis for comparison.
Does the Z's interior compare to the interior of a G? NO
Does the Z have a backseat? NO
Is the Z a luxury car? NO !
The G35 is a beautiful car; however, I do not feel it is worth 8,000 dollars more than say a 350Z enthusiast (TO ME). I think they are two different cars and the 350Z is much more bang for the buck.
Kelly also failed to mention her reaction to the Z - yuck thats a disgusting car. Why would you ever want that car. It's the equivalent of Walmart. No offense Kelly, but it's really inappropriate to comment on the value of a car that someone else may like, just because you feel it's not up to the par of your car.
Oh a quick note, the 350Z 35th edition has an MSRP of $36,300. With the premium most dealers are imposing, as well as some options, the price tag is equal or more than a fairly loaded G35 6MT. Do I think that price is obsene? Absolutely, but it is similar in price like I originally had stated.
I hope this clears things up a bit.

They cost practically the same in Canada :P, although the used-car market is flooded with Z's and practically no G's.
Model Year Model Name Model Code MSRP
2005 350Z 35th Anniversary Z2AG-BG55/Z2CG-DG75 $48,498.00
2005 350Z Performance Coupe Z2SG55 $45,498.00
2005 G35 Coupe Manual G2VG55 $49,300.00
2005 G35 Coupe Automatic G2TG75 $45,900.00
I love the way Z looks, but bought the G b/c of the 4 seats and its more mature looks.

DUDEEEEEEE~ if your so smart and have such a nice apt. in SOHO in ny......tell me this.....your looking to purchase a "depreciating asset" and want the best "all around deal"......meaning you want the LEAST depreciation amongst the two cars.....meaning......you still chose the wrong one......the G has the Highest resale value in it's category. im sure many other members can confirm this. ^^

#1) The 350z made the top ten list for lowest depreciation along with the G35. So, it holds it's value well, much like the G.

#2) The total cost of ownership on a 28K 350Z enthusiast (best value in my opinion) versus a G35 6MT w/premium/aero (34-35), is a lot less than the G.
Get a calculator and figure it out. Depreciation is just one piece of the puzzle when figuring out TCO for a car.

hey njg356mt if you've got enough money for both then why are you even worrying about TCO? it seems you're pretty well off, so why not just get the more luxury Infiniti? since you HAD to mention you own an apartment in SOHO (NYC), i'm sure a nissan won't up your status level...
as for the Z vs. G... overall i think the G is better but you pay a little more... and its not an $8k difference either... but don't knock the Z because it is a great value for the performance you're getting... and i actually prefer the Z's front compared to the G. but if you want best bang for your buck on performance get an STI or Mustang...
