I actually raced a few of them already & I have to say there pretty quick off the line. My boy got 5 car legnths on me up to 80 mph; but after that i was up on his rear bumper. That gto still had an edge but not by much. I agree that they are quick & fun cars to drive but nothing that makes my jaw drop to go trade my G for an ugly box on wheels......my 2 pennys.

Don't knock the OHV!

Yes, it uses a pushrod engine. The old mindset is that pushrods are old tech and low power. If you have been keeping up w/ auto news, GM has made a lot of advances to the pushrod engine and they get very good gas mileage (The 6.3L Corvette V8 gets 19/28, better than our G's!) and great low-end torque. Plus, pushrod engines are lighter, cheaper to manufacture, and shorter (height) than OHC engines.

gas mileage

True about the new corvette getting good gas mileage on paper, although I wonder what the real gas mileage is. As you probably know, the corvettes force you to shift from 1st to 4th gear unless you get the engine up in the rpm range before shifting into 2nd. That was done to help them get the better mileage numbers.

I have always loved corvettes (they are the only GM product I would ever consider buying) and 400 HP is impressive, but the fact that they need 6.3 liters of motor to do it is sad.

I asked him how much he paid, he said around 35 large. Same price for a pretty much fully loaded coupe. But honestly for the amount of money we pay for are coupe's there atleast should have alot more HP. Yes are cars have nice interiors, and systems, but his GTO interior wasn't that bad. But honeslty i think us infiniti and nissan lovers deserve a little more HP in are car
the same can be said for a ferrari relative to a corvette......U can't understand the difference between an infiniti and a pontiac???

Personally, I test drove the '04 GTO prior to driving the G35. Granted, it was the auto trans. However, talk about a BORING car. No sunroof, no MM, very WEAK stereo. The wheels are horribly ugly. They look tiny and plain. It always mystifies my that some car manufacturers don't understand that if they just put decent wheels on a car, it will attract more buyers. The feel of the interior was higher quality than other GM cars and really was ok. Also, as a new G35 owner, I have noticed the air of superiority that many forum members routinely exhibit. As someone who works hard for a living, with a nice house and 3 kids, each time I see members ripping on people who "may actually consider an american car", it kind of irks me. Just remember, not everyone is, or ever will be, in a position to buy anything other than an average american car even though they aspire to better. Ok, enough of my saturday morning preaching. MY G IS AWESOME and kicks the **** out of any car I have ever owned.

How can you be taken seriously? Of course nicknames like "burnout boy" are going to follow you when you are somehow capable of spending in the mid-$30K's for a car (or is it your parents' money?) and you can't spell, use capitalization or grammar! "I still haven't did a burnout yet cause i took ur advice . . . " That's a direct quote, man. I'm sure sentences like that do your parents and teachers proud. I don't mean to rag on you too much but if you want to be taken seriously, image matters. Image on a discussion board includes spelling and grammar.

Now on to the substance: you're comparing a car optimized for raw straight line acceleration to an G35 coupe, for heaven's sake! There IS a lot more to driving than 0 - 60's. Perhaps you realize this but it sure doesn't seem like it. Build quality, handling, looks, creature comforts and convenience, 24-hour roadside assistance, a much longer and more comprehensive factory warranty, loaner program for warranty work, etc. All those things cost money and end up as a part of that sales price. If you want a better comparison, you need to compare to Lexus, BMW, Acura, MB, et cetera, not a Pontiac GTO, Mustang, or other throw-back to the era of American muscle cars.

QUOTE=burnout boy
I love how all you guys that read my threads rag on me (need a comma) its (should be it's) kind of immature . Well yeah no **** a G coupe overall is a nicer car then (comparisons use the word THAN) a GTO I know... But I was trying to compare how the car has more Horsepower then (THAN!) are (you ARE retarded. the word you were searching for is OUR) G because there(they are = they're (it's a contraction)) around the same price. Even though American muscle isn’t as good as it use (used) to be. (sentence is a fragment, join w/ next sentence using a comma) Were (We are = We're (another contraction!)) not comparing a Shelby GT 500 to are (again, OUR) G guys.

So don’t hate (comma) appreciate

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Spelling and grammar errors are my pet peeve, because it makes it difficult to read and I think the kids today really don't know how to spell because they think Word will correct it for them. It's funny (actually depressing) to see 16 or 18 yr olds who type like this and say their parents gave them a G because they do well in school! Ha!

To actually be constructive, I've corrected your post above in BOLD. Please ask your Remedial English teacher for some extra tutoring. R U retarded?!?

Sorry if you think I'm hating on you. I'm actually trying to make you a better, smarter person, which will, in turn, make it easier for us to read your posts.

it's sad, but you see poor grammar all the time on forums. i'm not even from this country and i don't make these basic grammatical errors. it's basic elementary school english. for me, simple spelling mistakes aren't a big deal. but, with some of the other errors (like the usage of "are" instead of "our"), it makes me wonder. i can see now why america ranks so low in the education department/test scores compared to even third world countries. i read somewhere that an alarming percentage of americans can't even locate the united states on a world map....geez: (

Not to be lame guys, but "it's" is actually the possessive form of "it" in the English language. "Its" is the proper contraction of "it is." Just so you know for the next time you bust someone's chops. I really liked your post, though, P Diddy.

sorry dude, p_diddy got it right. the apostrophe normally indicates the possessive form (e.g. my dad's car, your friend's girl, etc.). however, in the case of the word "it", there is no apostrophe....just "its". with the apostrophe, it means " it is".

just to make sure, i just looked it up to confirm.

from yahoo/education:

ETYMOLOGY:
Alteration of it's : it + -'s
Usage Note:
"Its" is the possessive form of the pronoun it and is correctly written without an apostrophe. It should not be confused with the contraction "it's" (for it is or it has), which should always have an apostrophe.
