That's why it's so hard to compare absolute numbers from different dynos. I don't care if they're all dynojets. You still can't make conclusive statements with different machines. With dynojets, how can you be sure that the car was perfectly aligned on the rollers. If it's off by even 1 degree, that's reduced horsepower right there.

That's also why I only tend to dyno with other G35s/350zs on dyno days. You can get a rough idea of how your car compares to other cars. The dynapack reads high, no doubt, but you can still get an idea of your power output if you can compare it to several other cars, some stock, some not.

Just to add to the absolute number data, my car was 219WHP with a Z-tube.

that's a very good post... dyno's do read differently, even two dynos that are the same type. 220whp doesn't seem that unreasonable for a automatic car with 280 hp at the crank.

all a dyno pull is good for is measuring before and after upgrades at similar environmental conditions, preferably within hours of eachother. that and tuning if it's a load based dyno.

I got a question...
Can your engine be damaged on the Dyno? I want to dyno my car for kicks but I'm scared!

your engine and your car can be damaged. if everything is in good running condition and the dyno operator is competent, you'll be fine. if they over-rev your car, or in the case of an automatic don't put it in neutral as they lift off the gas, bad things can happen.

EEEKKKKK! I asked because I had a similar experience with a Mustang dyno. On a DynaPack, my car put down 388 to the wheels...on the Mustang it put 298! 90 hp dif! Then i was told by the guy running the Mustang dyno that it is the lowest reading dyno on the market because it's designed and puts emphasis on tuning and not numbers....yeah, I thought the same thing....HUH?

what was the barometer outside? what was the temp? what was the humidity %? what size wheels were you running on the dyno? did you try any runs in 3rd gear? are you comparing your numbers to those in similar elevations? etc etc..

there are 100's of things that go into consideration when dynoing a car. its not uncommon to see 2 identical cars put down 10-15whp difference on the same dyno.

have to agree w Neffster - chassis dynos have too many factors to make them reliable and the diff between flywheel and road hp numbers can range from 30 to nearly 100 hp. Your best bet is calculations from et numbers under as consistent of circumstances as possible (barometer, temp, fuel level etc...)

Cheers.

I really would love to see every ones face if they all dynoed on a properly set up Mustang dyno . I dyno on 2 different Mustangs and they are always with in 2 or 3 hp of each other . Dynojets are good for getting a big number . They are not a good dyno to tune on and run 10 to12% higher than a Mustang dyno . So you have that EGO thing going and every one likes the Dynojet

20's ruined it. We had a dyno day here and bone stock G35's would dyno between 226whp and 228whp. There was another G35 with 20's and an Injen intake that dyno'd 210whp.

Me personally I know my 19's robbed about 5-8hp from my dyno. If you're really worried about numbers put your stock wheels back on and dyno again.

Wheel size is not going to affect your dyno numbers. Try again.

WRONG! Inertia is part of the drive train loss! Do a search, many people with your point of view have posted it before and others explained why this was incorrect.
