Thumbs down Can't get into car

Hi All,

I have a 2004 G35 Coupe and it has been in storage over the winter. All doors/hood/trunk are locked and I've just tried to get into the car by using the key in the driver's side door. The key will turn both ways unimpeded but nothing happens when I do so. I'm not sure how I haven't encountered this before, and it may be a stupid question, but does the door need to have power in order for the mechanical key lock to open the door?

Thanks for your help!

The rubber seals are probably stuck to the door frame, turn the key to unlock the door manually then just pull a little harder. I recommend grabbing the top of the door frame with one hand and pulling from there rather than the handle so you don't accidently break the door handle off.

Try rubbing it gently and tell her how much you love her

Have you tried holding down the unlock button on your fob to see if it will roll down the windows? Not sure if that works on your model year or not.

You would then be able to get in there Bo or Luke Duke style or use the internal door handle.

IIRC correctly it's a double tap, hold the second tap, releasing will cause the windows to stop rolling down. Works on a 2005 coupe.

TIL it's a single tap/hold. Always done it double, guess I was just unlocking my car twice.

Just realized you have a coupe so you won't be able to grab the TOP of the door frame, you might need to put a plastic body tool prybar on the side of the door near the handle to get leverage from there. I would definitely try using the fob to get the windows down then you can just grab the door panel for leverage.

If your battery is dead do it VERY SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY since your windows will not drop the 1/2" needed for clearance from the frame, you won't be able to close the door again until you get the battery charged, if you try to close the door without the windows dropped you're going to shatter the glass.

OP, did you get in your car?

I had another thought if your battery is dead. Go in through the trunk, flip the back seat down and then you can shimmy through to get to your hood release. Charge up the battery a bit/jump start it and you should be good to go.

Interesting, I thought 03-05 had a key for the trunk. I've only had an 06 and now an 07 though.

The older ones just open with a fob or interior switch only? That sucks.

Hopefully OP got in.

Maybe the '04 is different. My '06 has a button on the taillight, or the button on the dash, or the key fob.

The 03-04 (and '05?) do not have the button on the taillight. I locked my keys in the car at the airport once (don't ask how). Luckily I was getting my luggage out of the trunk when I realized this, and had to get in the way ronnieballgame suggested. The OP should be able to get in with an actual key, as has been suggested. My suggestion would be to get one of those jump start packs and hook it up to the battery, that should be plenty of juice to work the locks or windows from the fob.
