Issue with passing Technical Inspection due to Xenon headlights
Hi guys.
Just a couple of weeks ago I bought a 2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe which had been imported to Switzerland from the USA in 2004. However, after so many years, it just failed the Technical Inspection ("MFK" called here), due to the Xenon lights. As you probably know, in Europe it is required that, when a headlight produces more than 2000 Lumens, it must have auto-leveling and cleaner nozzle systems, which my car does not have (as it was an import from USA), plus I haven't seen anything similar available for this particular model. So now I am stuck.
I am considering three options:
a) Find and install a pair of used halogen headlights. This option is clearly not my favorite, for obvious reasons, but I might end up to it, if everything else fails.
b) Find an aftermarket option that accepts LED or other type of bulbs. In such case, I should be able to change between low luminescence bulbs (when a Technical Inspection is coming up), and the bright ones, without any modification.
c) Find D2R-compatible Xenon bulbs at 25W, which produce 2000 Lumens. In such case, I should also be able to change between low luminescence bulbs (when a Technical Inspection is coming up), and the bright ones, without any modification.
I am in despair, as I haven't found any solution yet. Any ideas?

I'd buy the cheapest trashiest eBay lights that WILL pass inspection then swap the xenons back in after you pass.
Did they use a PV meter to verify you are actually pushing 2k lumens? Older worn lamps should be well under that limit.

Aaah, not that easy. They want me to replace bulbs with new ones, and produce document showing their wattage and lumens.
I would definitely go for a cheap halogen used ones, just for the MFK if only I knew which ones fit. But thx!

Not even sure if this will work but maybe put a variable resistor on your current lights after the ballast and twist until they're dimmer...? As far as documents, maybe just find something generic and change numbers around so they look legal?
Sounds like your inspection system is a real PITA.

OP this may end up being your best option. I did a lot of poking around on the internet today to see if maybe there's a xenon bulb that's 2K lm or less, would an LED replacement bulb fit your criteria (they don't lumens way too high) or is there some sort of halogen retrofit you could temporarily install to pass inspection but I couldn't find one. Do follow Cleric's suggestion to test the light output, he might be onto something there.

Thank you all. As I said in the beginning, they don't measure the lumens. They asked me to replace the bulbs and produce proof that they are below 2000 lumens each. The solution should be permanent (either installation or a document from manufacturer), because I don't want to face the same issue every 2 years!
Anybody knows positive whether the 2004 G35s coupe came ONLY with Xenon lights and how could I get hold of such an official document?

Sounds like your inspection station is fishing for a bribe, this situation sounds ridiculous. You're sure you can't just measure it /have a mechanic measure it and write a letter? The closest thing to an official doc you'll be able to find is a spec sheet. Unless they're checking your bulbs i would just bring in some random sheet and tell them you changed them... If they don't measure it and they don't take your headlights apart to look at the bulbs there's no way for them to actually tell... Hell just forge whatever you need in MS Paint lol
