Broken Pipe Attached to Muffler. Ideas?
Hey everyone,
The pipe on the inlet side of my muffler snapped at one of the flanges. Here is a pic:

What would you guys suggest?
I am not the greatest with cars, and this one is pretty rusty. So far I was thinking I could:
- Bring the car as is to a muffler shop
-Drop the muffler and bring that in
-Or drop the muffler and find a cheap oem muffler for sale and install it.

That happened on my coupe and I paid about 180 bucks to have them remove the flange and weld a sleeve. It lasted only about two years before getting a hole in it, however, I was able to fix that leak with a 15 dollar fibawrap heat patch.

I'd just replace the muffler, see if you can find one that wasn't in a cold weather environment for most of it's life and is cheap. Win, win...

You could try a
as well. That one is just an example, it may or may not be the correct size.

Be sure to check all the other hangers, usually when something breaks on an exhaust weld it started with a hanger breaking that put undue stress on another component.
Internal corrosion is a major culprit too, there is a SIGNIFICANT amount of water generated from internal combustion but when the engine is up to temp it usually comes out as steam and evaporates so rapidly on a warm day you done see it. If you only do short drives in the car, roughly 15min or less the exhaust system doesn't get completely up to temperature back at the muffler and you can still have a LOT of condensation inside the pipes or puddled inside the muffler.
All the more reason to fully warm up an engine before driving the car.

Factory replacement muffler is your best option offering a cool sound like Magnaflow! You could have it welded by your local muffler shop, judging from the surrounding area it probably won't last much longer anyway! You won't own this car long enough to wear out one of Magnaflows replacement mufflers, best
