Anoybody know what this tank is for? (is completely empty)

While doing my usual oil level check today I noticed this tank. It's located on the right side of the engine bay underneath the air filter.
Anybody know what is it for? It's bone dry and has no lines coming out of it as far as I can tell.

I unfortunately only noticed it because my air filter had fallen off and the screw for it had fallen into it (I've spent the past hour getting it back out again)
Will appreciate any responses.
Cheers.

It's part of the oem intake filter box. A baffle. It belongs in the trash.

^ Yep, it slots into the bottom of the OE intake box, you can pop it out and turn it into a vase or something,

Thread hijack!

This raises a reverse question: What would be the effect of disconnecting this from the OEM intake box, but retaining the OEM intake? I'm suspecting it would get louder without the baffle, maybe change the tone, but have no performance effect/impact?

What say the hive-mind?

I deleted all the baffles and capped them off before I made my 4" intake. I didn't notice anything at all.

I think of it more as an air circulation device. It provides negative pressure at the intake and quiets the car even more.

OP what sort of intake do you have, I've never seen anything like it.

Looks like an HKS filter sans foam

Because of my Fujita intake and KurumaZ bumper that has a scoop in that left front corner I removed all that crud...everything! Moved the filter down as low as possible, now I have a real "Cold Air Intake!"

I just drop a couple blocks of dry ice into my intake box. Thats what the power duct slot is for. Ultimate cold air intake!!!

Liquid nitrogen is more effective. Pour it into the baffling container and you're set.
