A/c pulley tensioner fell off
A/c pulley tensioner fell off
hey everybody I was messing around in a parking lot and my car stalls,so I look under the hood and my a/c belt is torn to shreds I’m missing the a/c idler/tension pulley and it knocked of my main belt.i recently got my belts changed at valvoline instant oil change so they said they’d replace my a/c belt but I’m not sure if there to blame for the a/c pulley comeong pff (maybe they didn’t tighten it down enough) nevertheless if they won’t teplace the pulley what do I need to buy because it looks like people reuse all the extra parts of The pulley and all I have left is a bolt I currently think I need this pulley cover

What does that mean?
I learned a long time ago not to trust anyone but factory trained technicians.( Except for my first vehicle which was a Ford. They couldn't find the problem so that was my first and last Ford)
On my third Infiniti and only use my local Infiniti dealer for all work. Very satisfied customer.

Just get ANY tensioner pulley from like Autozone or wherever, even a lower quality one is going to last for 100k miles.
I'm almost 100% sure they didn't tighten the locking bolt in the center of the pulley, it's one of those old Japanese styles where you loosen the bolt going through the center of the pulley and then tighten the tension nut below it that draws the pulley in/out, then you TIGHTEN the center pulley nut to lock it in place.
Make sure you get one that includes the pulley nut in the center unless you were able to find the existing one laying on the ground. Here's a picture of the BACKSIDE of the tensioner, if you have those pieces and the bolt for the center of the pulley then you have all the pieces. There is a cover like you linked, it's to keep dirt out of the bearing to make it last longer but it's not actually REQUIRED for the thing to function so if you need to assemble it to get the vehicle on the road while you wait for the cover to show up later that's perfectly fine.

I feel like something as simple as a sepertine belt doesn’t need to be done at the dealership I should’ve done it myself but I was lazy

You do realize that as far as the vehicle is concerned you are doing vehicle abuse
Shortly after the repair my Mazda kept jumping timing. After returning the third time they refused to reset the timing again.
A visit to the local Mazda dealer confirmed that the timing belt they used was a mm or two too long and the tensioners that they billed me for were never replaced.
The Mazda dealer provided me a written write up which was taken back to the local shop that did the work. They refused me a refund but a letter and a copy of the Mazda written write up to my credit card company got me a refund for fraudulent and poor workmanship.
The Mazda dealer did the repair correctly and had no more issues and eventually sold it for my new 92 Lexus
Ever since that experience more than twenty five years ago I only used the dealer for my previous 92 Lexus and my previous two Infinitis and always pay with a credit card.
Never purchase anything with cash, check, or use anything but a credit card. Never use a debit card.
Too many dishonest vendors out there.

ok so I had some time so I put my sepertine belt on, does it look like it’s tight enough.
I see the picture of it This what I have left from the looks of it I’ll have everything I need.
Do you guys think that this is the shops fault

It's absolutely the shop's fault. The only way for that pulley to disappear is to not tighten the nut on that bolt. They definitely failed in putting it back together the correct way.
