Same exhaust setup on different cars.

Hey all, quick question. I'm not really gripping here but, why do some exhaust setups sound different on other cars? Before I got my current I setup, I like many, listened to YT vids and attended a few cars meets to listen to them and loved the sound. However, when I got my setup all pieced up, it sounded not completely different but noticeable. Any explanation for this?

Current setup is muffler delete >> HR y-pipe >> Z1 Test Pipes >> Plenum Spacer

Thanks ~

If the exhaust setup was exactly the same from the engine back, different tunes, cams and intake setups can change the sound.

It varies dude, there are a lot of different variables and I’d imagine no two cars will always sound exactly the same. Could be anything from a short ram intake vs a cai, length of time with that setup, y pipe and brand, hfcs and brand, header etc. Are you trying to compare the sound of your exact setup to another car you’ve heard in person (not on YouTube) who has the exact same setup? I imagine your current setup is pretty loud.

Comparing the sound of a car in a video to one in real life is almost never the same unless professional sound recording equipment and professional playback equipment is used.

Also a new exhaust will change tone as it accumulates carbon / soot.

It is pretty loud when you get on it a wee bit and WOT, but it's a deep/High pitched VQ grumble. I didn't think brand noise would play a major factor in sound as most test pipes outside of art pipes are fairly similar. Same logic behind why some people get that hissing noise on deceleration with test pipes while some don't even though there's 0 leaks and everything's bolted up.

Now, in the future, I was thinking about replacing the mid pipe or have my exhaust guy re-do my muffler-delete as I think one of the welds has a leak,(evident from water dripping out when sprayed from the tail pipes).

Do y'all think the type of piping used/bends affect the sound?

Type of piping, probably not. But bends will.

No, resonant frequencies are determined by shape and size.

Alright so, here's an anomaly that I picked up today. After washing my car, there was some water leftover in the exhaust and when I started it up, the note was much deeper and the higher-pitches were very aggressive-- any idea to why this is?

Listening to our exhaust system on YT is a joke, you'll never hear what they really sound like until you hear them in person! If you intend to buy a really good exhaust system attend a few G35 or Z meets in your area. I am living proof this works, I've run 5 exhaust systems on SLICK (two were sponsored) until I found what works best!

I know that much but I was kinda surprised overall. Still, any answer to my previous question?

Sound Magic™

You can test this theory yourself, yell as loud as possible, now fill half your mouth up with water and yell as loud as possible.

Sounds deeper and more aggressive right?
