Uprev Tune - what month build prevents ECU Tune

Scheduled my appointment with Z1 next week - and they mentioned that on 2003 models, the early build dates couldn't be tuned. Anyone know the cut off date for this case? I am going to check my build date this evening, just want to know which the dates where the ECU can accept tune. If I cant tune, I may just have to upgrade to a 06 version!

Thanks,

Andy

Look at the ECM, it's the only sure fire way to know.

Here's a picture Seymore4 posted in another thread.

If you have a coupe you are fine. It is only the early 03 sedans that have the old ECU and are untuneable. Only way to tell ahead of time is to take a look at the physical ECU

Thanks for the quick response guys - I took a look last night to confirm.

2003 G35 Coupe Sport (6MT) - build date of June 2003 (they call it a 2003.5) - it has the second ECU pictured above, so I think we are a go!

Thanks again and will let you know my HP numbers when done.

Thanks,

Andy

Got back from the 1000 mile trip - honestly, even my wife said she enjoyed the drive. The G has so much more plush suspension and ride qualities compared to my old Benz or Nismo - its only loud when needed and at 75mph - she rides perfect.

Anyways - 246hp baseline 267hp final numbers. I have launch control/burn out/and 2 step - there are other maps and blah blah blah - mine is se to always be active so I don't have to mess with anything. You want rolling launch - hold Cancel at 3,800-3k rpm and she starts poppin.. relase and bammo - she is off. I had to remind to turn off the traction control otherwise makes for an odd ride. She spits flames at 7100rpm, but I rarely go there - I have a vid on you tube here:

Really happy with the results - and the car runs sooo much smoother now as well. More snap and pep in the high end as well.

I'm really glad you're happy with the tune AND recognize the myriad of other benefits it offers on top of a gain in HP. It's annoying to hear member after member spend the money on a tune and then complain "I only got 20 more HP, wah wah."

Yep - the whole car is smoother and more enjoyable now. I don't hit the 2step often, but plan on using the launch control - as I go to both autox and drag strips locally. I am more than happy with the $750 or so I spent. Not to mention how much more usable the power is for me - I have been tracking cars/bikes for years, I always hear how much more power people need, but in reality a driver mod is the most needed option!

I am looking into boosted applications now - easily 18 months away - but will be worth the wait!

lata -

Andy

On the highway yes, but its low RPM's... 70-80mph she is quiet as can be. I also have the rasp issue at 2.8-3.2rpm - its only there for a second, but is definitely there. For the price - I cant complain much - one day I will go with the motordyne pipes, and will get out of the rasp/drone issue.

Saving my money for a boosted application now - and I aint painting this thing until she is at least 400hp!
