Hey guys, hope you can confirm and point me in the right direction.
07 Coupe
Fuel gauge is currently showing on Full, after a while it may start working properly or slowing drop to E before the tank is empty. On occasion when turned on it will reflect the correct amount of fuel.
The Fuel pump and float was replaced for an unrelated issue but the gauge problem was an issue before the replacement.
I checked the sending unit on the passenger side more than once, the range is 42 ohms down to 2.07 ohms when lifted/lowered.
I tested both sides and they are working fine.
I see P0462 in the ECU and won't clear when the gauge is acting this way.
From what I read the cluster may be at fault and require repair.
Is there anything else that can be tested?
Any info on someone who repairs the cluster if that is the issue?
Front and rear cameras, tire pressure for all four tires can display on screen, folding side view mir
You have what is commonly known as a clusterfvck
A fuel gauge is not really necessary. Early automobiles did not have them and it wasn't until late 1961 or 62 until Volkswagen finally added one.
Fill your tank, set odometer to zero and drive 200 miles and then refill your tank and observe the number of gallons to fill up. Reset odometer to zero again .You can repeat a number of times at 250 miles etc and you'll have a very good idea when it is necessary to fill up.

P0462 means it's probably not a problem with the cluster. I suspect you have a wiring issue between the cluster and fuel level.
Next time it's reading wrong pull out the back seat and read the resistance on the float again. I think it's pins 2 and 5 on the main harness, if it's within range for about how much fuel you actually have then you need to ring out those wires back up to the cluster harness.
P0462 means it's sending the WRONG SIGNAL. If it was just a dash problem the ECM would not be seeing the wrong signal.
Might be a bad float, bad harness, bad wires. Start by reading what the harness is sending. Section DI -Driver Information in the FSM. That engine code is in section EC - Engine Controls.

The driver side float I am seeing a reading from 42 to 2 ohms, this is beyond the 5 to 2 ohms that you mention. I removed the float and checked it from high too low manually and this is the readings I received.
Can you confirm the numbers that you mention incase it was a typo?

5 and 2 were the pin numbers on the harness not an ohm reading. What you are measuring is the correct resistance reading from full/empty. I would leave the pump in the vehicle though and just measure it at the harness when you are having the problem.

Well there are two floats. One with the pump and the other just being a float on the driver side. The pump with float are new, the driver side float is not. I removed the driver side float, being only 2 wires and from full to empty I am getting 42 ohms to 2 ohms and it does fluctuate with the level of the float so that appears to be working.
Should the single float, driver side without the pump rear 42 - 2 or 5 - 2?
No those are PIN NUMBERS on the HARNESS. If you look at the primary pump harness there are 5 wires, wire number 2 and wire number 5 go to the float. You stick the probes of your DMM into those pins and read the resistance of the float.
The primary harness should read resistance from 80 ohms empty to 3 ohms full.
The secondary sub harness (one without the pump on the other side) only has two wires, pin 1 and pin 2.
The sub harness should read resistance from 43 ohms empty to 3 ohms full.
It sounds like you are only testing the sub harness and not the actual pump harness. Both send fuel level signals, both need to be functioning.
If the issue is indeed the wiring in the harness running from cluster to fuel level then it sounds like a heck of a nightmare to repair...? Have the same -p0462 problem myself and driving by mileage too. I really want to dig in and fix this already. I I feel like excessive ECU resetting is messing with my fuel trims etc..
