I bought a 2006 G35 coupe recently and trying to fix the smart key that came with it. Few problems with the key fob: Buttons don't seem to be pressable. Secondly, it seems the previous owner screwed up somewhere. Honestly, I have no idea what the previous owner was trying to do. The proximity unlock works fine, but that is the only thing that works. In picture 1, it says it requires a CR2025 battery. However, in picture 2, on the inside of the case it says CR 2032. and the inside looks like it got burned off or something. Was hoping someone could help me out. Pictures of smart key from other people with a 2006 g35 would be very helpful. I'm assuming the previous owner bought the wrong outer shell, and tried to replace the inner circuitry from an old key. Just need someone to confirm (and see if anyone knows where to get a smart key shell/how to program). I'm hoping I would be able to do it myself, since I just need to program the buttons and not the transponder, if I keep the same interior parts. Thanks!
I'd dig a little deeper and see if the iKey has a removable transponder, might be easier to just swap it to an entirely new unit. The inside cover was probably hollowed out like that to make room for the CR2032 which sits 3.2mm tall as opposed to the shorter CR2025 which is only 2.5mm tall.
I would just put a 2025 in it so it's not so tight, if it previously had a 2032 in it that might have been physically pushing on the buttons from the back so they couldn't be depressed.
You can also disassemble that a little more to get to the rubber dome switches for the buttons to see if there's anything wrong with them. Not sure exactly what it would entail because I don't have an iKey to dissect but you may have to drill out the plastic welds I circled in this picture.
Yeah was wondering if anyone knew where the transponder chip on this is located, and if you only needed the dealer to program the transponder chip, and hopefully I can program the rest. And the key already has a CR2025 battery so that can't be the reason that its not pressable. But on second thought, I think it's missing something between the rubber dome and the circuit board. I will upload pictures when I get home. Rubber dome separates pretty easily, but it doesnt seem to be a perfect fit for this circuit board. That's why I was hoping I could compare with someone elses to figure out what the correct parts are.
