Do I need both keys on my keyring?

I guess this sort of sounds like a noob question, but I haven't been able to find a straight answer.

I have the iKey setup on my car, and I currently keep the keyless entry fob on my keyring along side the main key (which I never use). The only reason I can think of for keeping the main key with me is in case the battery dies in the fob/iKey.

I know that you can pop out a little key from the fob itself, but it's not cut to fit anything specific. Would this save me in a bind? Can I take the main key off my keyring and be ok forever?

the iKey has a small key in it which can be use to oepn your door should your battery die. Look on the back of it and theres a piece you slide to unlock your key from the fob...

i actually do not have the iKey since my car is a 2003 6MT. I forget if your V35 came stock from the factory with the Intellignet key. I wonder if the previous owner modded that key to work.

Sounds like you are using the valet key to drive around?

Your ikey should have the key cut for the ignition and door. It will open the drivers door, and slip into the ignition to start the engine.

Now, if the key is programmed tp the car is another story. When you separate the key, both parts should start the car. In other words, leave one half in the house and use the other half to start the car. With the key part, you should be able to open door with key, and start car with key.

Put key in house and the fob part should be able to open your doors and trunk, and allow you to start the car.

You should have gotten

2 ikeys with key cut to ignition/door/glovebox
1 valet key for ignition/door (won't lock/unlock glovebox)
1 credit card key for emergency door opening.

I don't really use any key...I just unlock the car with either the button on the door, or the remote, then the keys go into my pocket while driving. Before I knew about the iKey, I did have difficulties starting the car about 1/3 of the time with the key (not from the fob). The key just wouldn't turn very easily.

When I bought my car a few months ago, it just came with one fob and one key. The key that goes into the fob is uncut. I haven't tried using it on anything.

Take your key and try to insert it into the glovebox and lock/unlock the glovebox door. If it won't work in the lot, then this is your valet key.

On your ikey, of you cut the key to match, it may still need to be programmed to the car.

Ok, so none of my keys even go all the way into the glovebox lock. So, is my best bet to go to a Nissan dealer and have them cut the key inside the fob to fit my car?

Dealer quoted me $180ish for a new key fob cut and programmed when a valet broke mine one night.

Update: The closest Infiniti dealer is about 50 mins away from me, but theres a Nissan dealership close by. I went there today and they cut the key for me for free. Nothing needed to be programmed or anything!
