Help maybe switching cars!?
❗️Quick question and quick answers are preferred please! I have this G35 Coupe and was considering trading it in for a 2012 G37x Sedan for those who have had both which do you enjoy more? How bad would I miss my G35❗️
sold second one after 94,000 miles and having a baby
bought third one and you'll have to pry it from my dead cold fingers

I realize the VQ37 is better in every way and more space is nice but there's something about a good looking coupe

Besides looks, the G35 has better road feel and the exhaust note is pure sex. The G37 is some faster but it's been tamed down for lux and isn't quite the driver's car.
I wouldn't necessarily say the ENGINE was better in every way, sure it's built stronger and has more base horsepower and they don't drink oil as vigorously but it's also got a LOT more moving pieces and complexity = points of failure, especially when the rear galley gasket failure is a thing...
The TRANSMISSION however (6MT) is better in every way lol. If you don't mind putting in a new CD00A transmission every 100k-150k miles then it's not really a big issue, supposedly this new CD00A has an even better lifespan than the CD009 but it hasn't been out long enough to really tell for sure and I'm not even sure what the differences are tbh.
I definitely wouldn't say the interior on a G37 is better, I would say it's DIFFERENT. It doesn't feel as ergonomically perfect as the G35 coupe does to me with the exception of the seat belt location. After my seat belt shoulder clip mod though it lands perfectly on me instead of landing on my neck.
I think the biggest reason the newer interior gets more praise is simply because it's not as old and the panels aren't peeling. Give them time lol... plus you can always "fix" that on older coupes by preventatively adding push-in trim at all the seams.
NVH is part of owning a sports car, if you have very low NVH it doesn't FEEL like a sports car anymore imo. The 370Z/G37 coupe really lack that sports car feel. I know this is a wierd analogy but they both feel like riding in a porsche and honestly I'm not a fan of that level of interior refinement. Obviously this is a personal opinion and you just need to sit/ride in them to see what you prefer. My first two fast cars were 70's and 80's Camaros so I like that NVH feel.

It's "less prone to failure" but by design it can never be truly FIXED because there will always be a gasket behind the cover. The Concept Z replacement gaskets have a good history of use though, but it's still a gasket, it's still going to fail in another 150k miles or less.
I really like how the first gen Gs have a more "open" cabin feel. Lower window belt line, smaller and less obtrusive dash tucked up against the windshield, better sight lines. Been a while since I sat in a second generation G or modern Q50/60, but I remember in those interiors I felt a bit more sunken into it. The first gen interior and exterior have their faults, but I prefer the simpler lines.

Today's 'sports' cars are so refined and luxurious you don't really feel the 'sport' part. The original G35/350Z was pretty unrefined and loud, bit of a choppy ride, hard clutch pedal and those notchy gears. You feel every shift in these cars, you can feel the gears meshing when you move the shifter as they engage. You won't get this feel on a modern Porsche or most modern 'sports' cars, so refined and all those linkages kills the feel.
They used to sell 'stripped' Camaros and Mustangs in the 80's and early 90's. I had a used base 91 Mustang 5.0 notchback that only had an am/fm radio and manual everything, very little sound insulation and no AC. Basically the GT drivetrain with no options and the smaller rims with the 10 holes lol. You could have even factory delete the radio in the base model and they sold them super cheap. Loved that car, it was almost 400lbs lighter than the loaded models of the time. Always wonder if there is a market for such a car today, assuming the right price of course. Today's G37/370Z is nice but just too 'smooth' for my liking from my experience during a 20 minute test drive.
I have a CD00A that I installed this year, shifts like a brand new transmission
I also have a B&M short throw shifter which I strongly recommend, much better feel than stock and it looks exactly the same once installed.
About the "stripped Camaro" option, in 2014 they brought the Z28 package back and that's basically what it was, and that car is an absolute monster.
