Error Code P0011?

Hey guys,
I've been having an issue for awhile now with my G where it throws the P0011 error code (intake valve timing control on bank 1). It idles rough and when I cold start, I hear a rattling sound (which I think is the timing chain slapping because I've read that it's a common issue in these cars). So, I was considering having the work done to get a new one, or at least a new tensioner (as that is what most people were saying was the problem with the timing chain system, not the chain itself). However, this repair can get pretty expensive and given the fact that the engine leaks oil from the valve covers pretty badly (about 1 quart every 1,000 miles or so), I'm thinking of possibly just trying to get a different engine swapped in and starting relatively fresh. The guy I bought it from said the previous owner who sold it so him raced it a lot, so I think starting with a fresh slate may be the better long term solution here....Thoughts? Btw, I've already have both VVT solenoids replaced and both camshaft sensors, so I don't think that those are the issue that's causing the P0011 code

It could be caused by low engine oil pressure, that's where I would start. You can purchase a oil pressure test kit from harbor freight or Amazon for cheap. I picked one up a while ago, and I used an oil filter sandwich plate to test for oil pressure. I had about 35psi at idle @ operatiing temp, I think the minimum is like 15psi.

Maybe that will be a good idea as my car leaks oil pretty excessively (~1qt every 1k miles). I need to get that addressed as well

hey man I have the exact same problems as you do. What did you end up doing to fix the issue? I would really like to know. Thanks.

So I actually ended up doing an engine swap lol for reasons other than just the oil leak but essentially what the shop said was that the backplate gasket has slid/fallen out (it's a flimsy piece of paper pretty much) and was leaking substantial oil which in turn caused the oil pressure which threw the P0011 code. Unfortunately it takes a pretty decent tear down to get to the gasket tho so expect a decent labor fee ;(
