Soooooo, I bought my 04 g35 coupe last Friday. I changed the oils last Saturday. I drive roughly 50 miles to and from word a day(100miles per day). Knowing this car consumes a lot of oil, I�m at my 500mile oil check for a top off. I know the car needs to be topped off but I CANNOT get and accurate read. Either my whole dipstick is drenched with oil or the is very little oil to get a proper rear. Can one of my fellow G35 coupe owner give me the gift of gab to the problem. Again I know the car need to be topped off so I really don�t want to continue to drive it know this. Let me know guys

Park your vehicle on level ground, let it sit for 30 minutes, preferably overnight and then check your oil. My previous 06 G35 6 speed sometimes used a quart/1000 miles

OP...it is simple. Check your oil in the morning.

My Q50 (not 3.7 but the 3.0TT) can be measure within minutes.

So, it is not a rule of thumb but depends on the car.

I seem to get the most consistent readings in AM

you can try scuffing up the end of the dipstick (make sure you clean it good after, dont want any alien residue in the crank)

and i always check my oil after it sits over night. even just waiting for it to cool down for a couple hours could give a bad reading. overnight is the 100% best bet. as you now found out we have the worst designed dip sticks known to mankind. use two hands when extracting, if you wanna be as extra as humanly possible, you could remove the intake so the dipstick can come straight out (unplug battery if you plan to remove any electronics ie the maf sensor)

other than that you'll learn to live with it

Yup. Park the car on an even surface and let it sit overnight. Check it in the morning before u start the engine.

Once u have it full, reset the odometer to 0. Every week or two, keep checking and topping off the oil until u have used up the whole quart. Check your odometer and remember the miles. Now, everytime u fill up your oil, just reset the odometer again. U will know u need a quart of oil when u hit the same number of miles again. This method just saves you from constantly checking the oil all the time.

My car burns a quart of oil every 3000 miles. So I can add a half quart every 1500 miles....but I get lazy

mine has 98,000 miles on it, and gulps down a quart every 600 to 800 miles.

I check it minimum once a week.
