Striped out the crank position sensor bolt hole.
Striped out the crank position sensor bolt hole.
Title states the issues...
You guys have any ideas what I can do to remedy this situation outside of I should never be allow work on my own car ever again?
truth be told I am not sure I did this (I am pretty sure I'm the one that did this...) or if the previous owner did it...but regardless
it has been done. I wanted to know if anyone had done this before and what you did to fix the situation.
Update: Just watching some videos on stripped out bolts and it turns out that you can use a helicoil ....and it seems the previous owner
had done this and the material I though from me striping the bolt hole was that heli coil stuff... so it was not me.. but for sure I cant get that
bolt to tighten back down with the sensor installed... if i take the sensor out and put the bolt in the mounting hole it gets tight...so I am kinda
lost on what I should do.
Thanks...

First off I would try to reinstall the sensor and bolt and see if it will torque down to the factory spec of 85 INCH/lbs. Put a little loctite 242 or 243 on it in case it does work, This will help hold the heli-coil in place in case it ever has to be removed again.
EDIT: This is not uncommon with heli-coiled threads, as long as the helicoil looks intact just reuse it.
DOUBLE EDIT: I'm betting they used an SAE helicoil and just cross threaded the metric fastener into it.
