2003 g35 60k miles Rusted Beyond Repair?

I have a pretty uncommon G35, or at least I think it is. It's a 2003 6 speed coup that has every possible option (brembo's, sunroof, body kit, even heated seats) that was imported from Canada. I don't think you can get some of the options this car has if you bought a USA made one in 2003 ( I read that in these forums). The problem is where it came from, which is NOva Scotia.

The car has 60k miles on it, and is mint mechanically, however I've never seen cheaper metal used on a car this price. The rocker panels are gone. There are holes under the car, and under the door is almost completely gone on both sides. See this post on this forum:

https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-cou...-opinions.html

It's worse than that. I took it to a local guy that works on cars in his spare time, but he broke his ribs and doesn't want to do it now, he said it'd cost me $5000 to have it fixed at a body shop, and that's the cheap estimate in his words, as it needs both rocker panels and work on the fenders, and he said the gas tank has to come out.

From what I understand the metal on these are extremely cheap on the rocker panels and fender, so the frame shouldn't be an issue.

I'm wondering if anyone on this website knows of anyone who works on the body of these cars who can do it for a more reasonable price as the quote i got seemed high to me but I don't know much about it. I'd hate to par out a 2003 6 speed g35 that has only 60k miles on it that runs great, but I don't think I want to spend $5000 to fix design flaws caused by Nissan cheaping out on metal. I'm on the east coast (pennsylvania).

I don't think it's the quality of the metal, but rather the climate the car was exposed to. I've been to Nova Scotia in mid May and they had snow on the ground, It's on the north Atlantic coast and the air is laden with salt and moisture. Even stainless steel gets surface oxidation. You can search for body parts such as fenders, quarter panels and floor pans. A lot of cutting and welding to be done. If you know how to weld get or rent a welder and do it yourself. You may have to fabricate some metal parts for reinforcement of rusted parts. Not an easy job, but doable.

This basically happens to every car that's seen 18 years worth of salted winter roads. The G35 is no exception, thus why I typically just park the car for the winter even though they use de-icer here and not salt.

My 1998 RAV4 which is known for rust has been driven in the north east since 1998 and does not have nearly the issues. It came from Boston. My 1984 300zx Turbo 5 speed that I sold when I Bought this car did have rust, was driven on the east coast, but was not nearly as rusty as this 2003 G35. I did have to repair where the rear axle bolts into the frame, drove it for 10 years, had no issues. My 2007 ford escape hybrid, 4 years newer than the g35, has been driven and beaten into the ground in NYC for 14 years and it doesn't have nearly the rust issues, and we know how fords are the rust champions.

I've owned a lot of cars and have never seen cheaper metal used in any car I owned, and I paid more for this car than other cars. IMO there is no excuse to use such cheap parts on a car that costs his much, and doing things like this is why Infiniti is the car you get when they are out of all other rental cars at an airport in 2021.

That's just my opinion though which we're all entitled to. I've just never seen a car rust as fast as an infiniti G35.

I've seen the entire bottom rust off of multiple vehicles after owners decided to do 4-wheeling in the ocean You have no idea what the previous owner did to that car.

Looks like someone is going to come up and pick it up for $175 as a junked card.

I keep hearing from body shops the car is more to fix than it is worth. They said the rocker panels are discontinuted so you have to manually make the pieces which is time consuming. I searched and sure enough infiniti no longer makes the rocker panels. I can find these:

But they are for an 07 and on, if I say I have a 2003 their site says it doesn't fit.

They're for a sedan, that's why they won't fit. Sad to see yet another 6MT coupe taken off the road, especially one with only 60k miles on it.

Edit: Did you take the Brembo calipers off? Those are worth decent money.
