I just got done getting everything back together. I will admit that I did cheat a bit and I did not replace the chains and tensioners for the cams. I only replaced all the guides, main chain, and tensioner.
got it all back together and pulled vacuum on coolant and let it fill. I had heat at first but then it went away and started to get hot after idling for quite some time.
my first thought was let me pull water pump cover and make sure it was turning and it is. So I do believe this might be an air pocket this go around. I got tired of messing with it.
it was idling like crap at first, still a little hard to start. It didn’t take long to for check engine light to come on. Keep in mind it started doing this at the same time it initially started getting hot.
codes are p0011 and p0021. I just replaced the intake cam actuator about a month before all of this happened. It is possible the parts store actuator has failed. I did pull it off wallago and there was a little bit of grime on it so I sprayed it off with brake clean and nothing changed.
I ordered a cam sensor to put in. I’ve about had it with this car lol.

If you still hear gurgling and get overflow, make sure your hoses are all clamped. Otherwise, you are going to draw air into the system forever. My 2 cents.
Another update. I had released some air that night I posted, I took my lunch and I decided I would drive it down the road. I did have heat while I was driving down the road. The car did not get hot when I drove it a few miles down the road. Which has me pretty convinced that it is simply an air bubble this time that needs to get worked out. I will try using the spill free funnel to get everything topped off.
as far as the terrible idling sometimes and the 2 codes. So about a few weeks before all of this happened I had pulled the vvt solenoid off due to it leaking oil. Upon removing it, the solenoid broke in half. That’s why it was leaking oil. So I bought a new solenoid. Problem is I wasn’t thinking when I ordered it and I bought a right hand solenoid. I put it in on the drivers bank. I know the part numbers are different so I’m wondering if this wasn’t an issue ever since I replaced it. I wasn’t the one that was driving it during this time, my wife was. So for all I know this was an issue back when I replaced the solenoid.
im hoping like crazy that the new correct vvt solenoid for that side, and a new cam sensor clears these issues up as well as getting this air bubble worked out and everything is good to go.

This was the problem. Timing chain guide above the water pump fell off and wedged itself between the chain and the pump. The chain then slid over the metal guide without engaging on the teeth of the water pump.
