Please help!

Hello G35Driver members! For the past few months or so, my car has been wandering left and right all over the road like it’s nothing. The car is not enjoyable to drive anymore and I’d like to try and solve this problem from you guys.

Here are the things that I’ve done to the car so no one asks about them. The front end has all new ball joints, control arms, bushings, end links, rack & pinion and shocks.

The rear has new shocks as well.

I have brand new tires and rims all around the car. The tire pressure is good, the alignment is perfect.

The car will go left and right constantly, and it almost feels as if there is no center to the steering wheel. If I counter-steer a tiny bit the car will continue to go into that direction. The wandering is worse on the highway, but bad enough to the point where I refuse to drive it on main roads. I have taken it to two shops so far and they’ve thrown on new parts and said “the problem is fixed now”. I am getting sick and tired of this. Please throw me suggestions as to what this problem could be! I have fixed nearly everything I could.

Also, the car seems to sit lower on the front left side.

Does it by any chance have the rear active steering? You can tell by a box sitting behind the differential with two rods extending out to the rear wheels. If so, maybe it is malfunctioning causing the car to wander. May have to go to the dealer to get it checked out if that's the case.

A little reading of the forums you will see and discover many posts confirming that these vehicles do not perform well by using cheap non OEM parts.

A thorough complete inspection and road test by a competent factory trained Infiniti technician can most likely confirm the root cause of your problem?
Has this vehicle ever been in an accident and suffered a bent frame?

Good luck

No, it doesn’t have RAS. My G is a 2005 and RAS was introduced in the 2006 models and up. I will most likely be going to the dealer to find out the problem. Thank you!

I’ve had some bad luck with non OEM parts on this car already. Everything on it is OEM at the moment. From what I know the vehicle was in a front end accident and a rear end aswell. I do think there was frame damage, but it was repaired. I’ll most likely be taking the car to Infiniti quite soon.

Thank you!

Sounds exactly like it's out of alignment, when did you have it checked, do you have the alignment report? If so take a pic and post it here.

Also, the alignment needs to be fixed/checked anytime you replace a front end component.

I have an appointment set for this upcoming Saturday. Although I don’t think it has to do with the alignment one bit considering I’ve had multiple done after the front end replacements and other stuff. I did just change out the back right upper control arm and the camber arm due to a problem showing up the last time I went.

I will also update you on what things are looking like on Saturday.

Yeah your car definitely shouldn't be pulling with numbers like that. You say the R&P was replaced, what about the inner/outer tie rod ends?

Yeah, the inner and outer tie rods were replaced aswell. These were all the items replaced with in the front end along with the shocks and R&P.

Well you replaced everything it looks like.

Has the car ALWAYS driven like this or is it something that happened suddenly?

Can you describe the problem in a little more detail?

Something I want you to test, go to a large parkinglot and drive about 20mph while driving in a large circle, then simply let go of the steering wheel and see if the car straightens itself or if the wheel snaps back so fast that it overcorrects and starts driving the opposite direction.

If it snaps back too fast and overcorrects then the preload angle on the R&P needs to be tightened up (there's a large but on the R&P to adjust).

Too loose a preload makes the steering feel really sloppy and unpredictable.

You want to be driving a pretty tight circle btw. Not quite on the far lock but still turned a lot.

It is something that happened suddenly. I drove 40 minutes on the highway to a friends house and when I got back on the highway it started to act up. This has been an ongoing problem for months now.

I’ll try my best to put this in the best way possible.
If I am driving down a straight road my car will wander to the left and then to the right every 1-2 seconds even though my steering wheel is completely straight (not exactly straight.. it sits at about 11:00 for some reason. Even after getting my alignments. But the wheels are still straight). I will have to counter steer when it does that, but when I do turn the wheel left or right a tiny bit to do so, the wheel does not return to the center, it will keep going in that direction.
I’m sorry if that isn’t very descriptive; it’s very hard to explain.

Yesterday I noticed that if I make a turn onto a road and let go of the steering wheel for it to return, it’ll only return about half way.

It’s been three hours since I wrote the stuff above.

I went into a parking lot and did what you told me to do. The wheel centers out pretty quickly. Nothing seemed wrong with it at all.

Also, while I was doing that, a security guard chased me for a good twenty minutes. I made the best of it.

Ok you should check the steering shaft u-joint, there is a slip collar with a bolt to keep it on the splined shaft and you may be actually slipping a tooth on the steering shaft which could be INCREDIBLY dangerous.

I haven’t gotten around to doing that yet. I’ll most likely have my mechanic check that out.

A couple more things I’d like to add for this problem that could lead to a solution is that the drivers side of my car is lower than the right side. The car drives perfect on smooth roads, but once I get onto a decently bumpy roads or even one with little hills in the road, my car will start to freak out. After my alignment I have noticed that my car still pulls right.

If I go over little bumps on the highway my car seems to jump and it’ll either jump left or right. It’s becoming highly dangerous to drive this vehicle on public roads. Should I take it Infiniti and have this diagnosed or do you guys have any more suggestions?
