Unhappy Do I need to reprogram my newly installed MAF sensor in my 05' G35?

Hello all,
I recently came into the horrid P0420 code saying my cat was running at 2/4 and the other 1/4 efficiency. Ran some Cataclean through tank but has no luck with getting rid of the service engine soon light. I then took the car into the mechanic and they found a tare in my rubber intake "boots". I couldn't get the particular part from the dealership at the time so I patched up the tare with electrical tape (very, very carefully taping the valleys of the accordion shaped "boot"). I had to drive the car around for about a week and a half with this issue. I finally replaced the whole intake fixture (new filter and all) and I also cleaned the air flow sensor. Later drove the car to work the next morning but BAM, when I hit 80 on the highway the poor car shut off. I unplugged the air flow sensor and the car was able to kick back on. I then replaced the sensor with a new Hitachi airflow sensor...... but I didn't necessarily reprogram it by unhooking the battery for 10 minuets yet. Is the step absolutely essential? How bad do you think I ****ed this car up? My G35 has about 116,000 mils on it and it's been throwing me problems left and right. I don't do doughnuts in empty parking lots or anything, I just enjoy getting the car up to 130mph on certain occasions...... (not during this whole ordeal though!) This isn't a good excuse but I'm a girl and I have been trying to fix my own car because mechanics have been trying to jipp me left & right. Any and all advice is welcome.

You just need to do the idle air recalibration and an ECM reset. The pedal dance method works fine. Here is a link, use a stopwatch, the timer counts need to be exact.

Thumbs up

Thanks cleric670,

The pedal dance method worked like a charm!
