Bolt snapped when replacing oil pan!

I was replacing the oil pan and I snapped off one of the bolts from the pan. The rest of the bolt is now stuck in the block. Any methods of getting it out or should I just install the new pan and call it a day hoping it wont leak because of the gasket. I was thinking jb weld the rest of the bolt back on and try loosening it but I think its seized.

JB weld wont hold. Thats too much force.

U can use an easy-out screw extractor.

Or, grind the remainder of the bolt down til its flush. Use some black RTV on top of the gasket and just install the oil pan without that bolt.

Just extract the bolt and do it right. Worst case you drill that bolt out and put in the next larger size.

Take a picture and post it though, I'm surprised an upper pan bolt broke, seems odd.

Well I ended up just placing the pan with the broken bolt left hanging there because I kinda didn’t want to deal with it no more. If it leaks after the gasket cures. I’ll redo it and take out the bolt. Here is the bolt that snapped in half.

I feel for ya. I broke one of those bolts when replacing my lower oil pan a few years ago. The screw extractor didn't work and I was having hard time drilling it out (rotator cuff injury wasn't helping), so I took it to the dealer. I agree you should do it the correct way and replace the bolt, but you might get away without it and not have it leak. That is assuming you use the correct sealer (Ultra-gray) and clean the mating surfaces properly. Edit: and torque the bolts correctly.

Sometimes it's easier to just drill/tap a new hole next to the existing one rather than trying to use an extractor.
