G35 Tire spec question regarding vdc issues
Just bought a 2006 g35 coupe and it’s having vdc/abs issues where the breaks keep locking up on me and the dash displaying “slip” “vdc off”. I was wondering if it could be the tires. I’m running 225/40/18 in the front and 245/40/18 in the back. Could the different tire widths be causing an issue? Or the 18in rims. Pretty sure stock is 225/40/19 front and 245/40/19 in the back so I’m pretty close idk why I’m having issues. Tires are new and have very little wear. All my fluids (break, steering, oil, ect.) are topped off.
The VDC system should be fine for tires that are less than 3% difference in diameter, your tire sizes are only 2.4% difference in diameter so that shouldn't be the issue.
However if it's a VDC condition where it's actively trying to correct steering by actuating the brakes like you are describing then that is almost always because it thinks one wheel is moving faster than the rest.
I would go to Infiniti for a 1 hour diagnostic to have them troubleshoot the issue OR just buy new tires for the car. If your larger size tires have much more tread than the smaller size tires then you're probably really close to that 3% mark.
If the tires are from different manufacturers then they might just be a little big/small.
In the meantime to disable the system you can just unplug the harnesses from the ABS relay, it's located right in front of the brake booster ABS/valve block. At least then the car isn't trying to hit the brakes while you're traveling down the road. Your VDC light will be on full time but the system will be disabled INCLUDING YOUR ABS BRAKES.
I don't think turning VDC off with the dash button will disable correction completely but you can also try that.
There's also a possibility that your steering angle sensor might be out of calibration, that too will require a visit to Nissan/Infiniti or you can use Nissan Datascan 2 (PC version not android) to reset the steering angle sensor.
