Rear O2 sensors help

Hello, 2007 G35 coupe owner, I attempted to replace my O2 sensors today, the front ones were the correct parts, but I seemed to have ordered the wrong rear/downstream sensors?
I ordered the OEM ones, I had assumed they’re all the same since there was no option to specify the model year: 226A1-AM601 and 226A0-AM601.

The blue O2 sensor is the new replacement, just taken out of the box. The gray O2 sensor is what came off the car.

Blue harness is right downstream, green harness is left downstream. These are both in the catalytic converters.

Black harness is upstream, they're both the same and are in the headers.

Light grey (not what I see in the picture) with the more pointed sensor tip is the ones for the newer HR/VHR engine.

For the future to prevent accidentally getting parts for the 2007 sedan HR engine you can just order stuff for the 2006 coupe, all the same parts as the 2007 coupe.

Cleric, appreciate your response, I gave the dealership my VIN, apparently there’s another part number for the rear O2 sensor: 226A0‑ET000 (2005-2008 G35).

Yeah that part number is the light grey harness sensor with the pointed tip, it's for the 2007+ SEDAN with the HR engine, or anything 2009+ with a VHR engine.

That's why I suggest asking for parts for a 2006 coupe.

2007 coupe with the DE engine doesn't share many parts with the 2007 sedan with the HR engine. Easy for parts guys to send you the wrong stuff.

DE Upstream wideband sensor 22693-CD700

DE Upstream narrowband sensor 22690-AL600

DE downstream left sensor 226A1-AM601

DE downstream right sensor 226A0-AM601

Then the HR/VHR sensors

2007 HR upstream sensor 22693-ZE00A

2008+ HR and VHR upstream sensor 22693-1NA0A

2007+ HR and VHR downstream sensor 226A0-ET000 this is the one they're trying to sell you which is the wrong part number, your 2007 coupe has the DE engine, not the HR.

Actually, I shouldn't be so quick to assume that.

Which engine DOES YOUR CAR HAVE? Does it still have the stock DE engine?

What about the exhaust? Did someone put HR headers/cats/y-pipe on your car? Maybe they also swapped in the HR O2 sensors and swapped the chassis harness side as well?

Bone stock DE engine, which is why I ordered “DE downstream left sensor 226A1-AM601 and DE downstream right sensor 226A0-AM601”. They don’t fit, my DE engine has the gray downstream O2 sensors. They sent me the “right” parts, on paper. I hope I’m making some sense. It’s bizarre.

That's odd, my suspicion is a previous owner swapped out the cats/sensor/harness for the HR stuff.

However that would mean it has HR headers as well since it's a different flange.

Fortunately it's easy to tell which headers and cats you have because they look VERY dissimilar.

Check out this thread, he has pictures of the cat flange shape difference, as well as good pictures of what the DE and HR headers look like in the next post.

I appreciate your help, very informative (no sarcasm). I’m the original owner. The upstream O2 sensors work/fit fine. You can understand my confusion and frustration when the car is on the lift, and the DE O2 sensors don’t fit. According to the dealership, 226A0-ET000 fits some 2005-2008 G35 models. I have a headache, haha.

Well it wouldn't be the first time I've seen equipment bleed over from one generation of platform to the next, especially on split model years.

Do you have a 5AT or 6MT coupe?

Keep the thread updated with what you find out, might help someone else in the future with the same issue.

G35 Manual
This must be very common, as I have seen at least 5 different Youtube videos where the connector is "wrong". In most of them, the person just cuts off the old connector and solders it to the new one. And it works fine.

Just a thought.

I've just ordered some as well (rear O2 sensors), and if they don't fit with the connectors, I will be doing the same rather than chasing around to get the right ones.

They should work.

Fortunately those harnesses are very readily available for the G35, mostly due to their location in an area where they are susceptible to damage.
