Knock Sensor

Ok I got knock sensor error code replaced knock sensor and wiring harness. Still error codes. Someone help spent $400 already. Also does anyone know if the 2003 Infiniti G35 has a new knock sensor or new wiring harness.

When you say "wiring harness" you mean that short little sub harness connecting the knock sensor to the main harness yes?

Got this same issue going on. Got the p0327 code, strangely after doing some work on the evap and moving the harness a bit in that area. When I giot down to trhe knock sensor, the connector disintegrated in my hand, so I thought I found the problem. I bought a new sensor (kne08) and replaced the short harness with another I had from another engine, after checking for no broken wires.

Put it all back together, reset the ecu, and still pulling the p0327. Noticeable difference in running too, the timing the ecu is pulling without the knock, plus more fuel I guess is causing this thing to chew thru gas like crazy.

I want to check the knock sensor wire for continuity at the ecu pin, maybe a wire is exposed for cracked in the harness. Can anyone post an ecu pinout and the # of the knock pin? 2003 G35 coupe 6mt

btw, Cleric, this one is probably for you.. what is the difference in the KNE08 vs KNE20 NTK numbers? thanks guys. headed out to pull it apart again.

shows knock as pin #71

edit: just pulled my ecu plug.. that is not the correct pinout. FYI

You can drill down to get your service manual here: https://www.nicoclub.com/infiniti-service-manuals. Download each section into one folder. Start with the fwd.pdf file; it's the table of contents and clicking each section entry will take you automagically to the selected section.

Here's the Engine Control section for 2003 coupe: https://www.nicoclub.com/service-man...F2003%2Fec.pdf

Start at EC-133 for diagrams.

thanks for that link. Telling me that Pin#15 is the knock, but looking into the face of the plug, there is no #15, the pin location is blank. Is the diagram to be read from the back side, as the wires enter the terminals to the ecu?

okay, pulled the ecu harness thru the firewall, and looking from the wires going into the ecu. continuity from knock signal plug to ECU pin #15. Ohmed out my new knock sensor thru the sub harness, got the same .559 (20M setting) so that was $91.00 I didnt need to spend. Now I'm clueless.

so today I installed a complete new intake manifold gasket set, checked and rechecked the sub harness and main harness for continuity and shorts, checked the knock sensor for continuity to ground on pin2, and continuity to pin #15 at the ECU on knock pin1. All checked out. The new knock sensor ohmed out at .559, exactly the same as the old.

Assembled the MD 5/16 spacer carefully using factory gasket on the bottom manifold, and applied Return To Service 1min rtv and clamped onto the top half. Now it is at least manageable to service this thing without spending an hour scraping old rtv.

Reset the ECU with the ignition and pedals. Verified no stored codes on the OBD2 scanner. Starts up smooth, I'm feeling good about it. Warm her up and take it out to relearn the maps in the ECU. Going down the highway, I can tell its just missing something again. Pulled over, and checked codes... P0327..knock sensor low input. WTH??!

What now? I'm at a total loss

Update. Fixed.
Pulled the top end off for the 3rd time, and pulled the engine harness out and split it open to look for broken wires. Ended up being the "new to me" knock sub harness I installed. Had a broken wire that still was making intermittent contact, so tested good but when the car was moving it flexed and popped the p0327 low input signal code. I built a new sub harness with shielded wire and tested it at every step going back together. I reset the ECU and took a nice spirited drive to relearn the ECU curves. She pulls like a beast again.. and I havent felt that in almost 4 yrs.. before the original engine spun #5 pulling Gs on a highway on-ramp.
Finally after putting her back on the road last August, I can now remember how quick and fun this car is.

KNE20 was the longitudinal DE engine sensor (G35, 350Z, FX35, M35)

KNE08 was the transverse DE engine sensor (Maxima, Altima)

I'm ALMOST certain the harness is the same because I think I chopped an Altima engine harness at a junk yard to fix a broken connector on a 350Z one time. Spec for both sensors should definitely be the same though.

Glad you got it all sorted out though, I had to fix my sub harness as well, whatever insulation they used for those conductors is garbage, I ended up just depinning my existing one and sleeving shrink tube over each individual conductor, then putting another shrink tube over the top of the whole thing to keep it together.
