Removal of cats

I'm sorry I am sure this is a repost, but I searched up and down and couldn't find the answer I was looking for. Has anyone simply removed their cats all together? What were the results? If you could give me a better topic to search that would be fine also, I could only find results for hi-flow cats, not no cats at all. Assuming I would have no problem getting my car inspected, what would the results be? many gains? any CELs? any info is very much appreciated as I have only been on the board a short time and just got my G last week.

a ton of members have removed their cats..including myself...you should go to the exhaust section of the forums...tons of info in there...also you can search for "test pipes" as those are the cat replacement piece...there is a decent increase of power without the cats...and if u use the o2 sensor spacer...you shouldnt get any CEL....i think no cats was the best mod for the money and to do it your self isnt that much if a pain.

What's the benefit or negative of not having cat except hp gain?

If you don't have a cat, you never have to clean the litter box. Save a lot of money on cat toys too.

The best way to remove a cat is to get a large dog. Usually removes all cats in less than a day.

(sorry, I couldn't resist.)

Stillin has some nice racing pipes, but like they say on the item description, they are for racing. I'm pretty sure florida is the only place you can drive with out your cat (hehehe), I'm not going to do it, because that would be really "Richard" to the air pollution thing. But you really shouldn't run into in problems persay, but then again stuff always goes wrong modded or not

One negative is.......we really need the ozone layer!

But if you don't really care about that sort of thing......

I tried the test pipes. My exhaust fumes were so strong....I actually got a serious headache after driving!!! No joke....my wife bitched also.
I just removed them and put on the Kinetix cats.

Another negative is the loudness and raspy sound...like BB's in a can that almost all test pipes make at a certain RPM. The ones that are resonated help...but not totally eliminate the rasp.

I think a set of hi flow cats such as Crawford or Kinetix is a much better way to go.

thanks for all of the responses guys. where are the best places to buy parts on line? i would like to do the retro fit center console mod as i have an early 03, hi-flow cats (from what i have heard about raspy noise), y-pipe, clear corners, and springs (do you need to buy shocks for Tein springs or can you run stock shocks?)

The biggest negative is that its a federal offense to drive a car without cats in 45 of 50 states - they can impound your car, put you in jail and fine the hell out of the shop that does if for you (if you don't yourself). Of course it does take an **** cop to lay on the ground and look under your car with a flashlight to figure it out, but I have certainly been pulled over by my share of a-hole cops. Also - its been a while, but I think it was Sport Compact that did a comparo test on 3 or 4 cars with cats/without and with high-flow. IIRC, the most HP gained was 2, and one car actually lost power with test pipes. IMO, there are better ways to gain power. Good luck...
