Need Advice about Possible G35 for G35 trade. NEED HELP!
I currently have a Twightlight Blue 2004.5 G35 A/T with Everything except Nav and Side Moldings. I pay 429 a month for 15k miles a year and put 5 down. I have 8k Miles on it right now. I have 36 months remaing on the lease.
If you Do the math thats 429*36 = $15444 that Im going to pay
I can trade it for a Ivory Pearl 2004.5 6 M/T with everything excpet Navigation and Side moldings. The payment would be 482 a month for 30 months with 16k a month. This car has 9k Miles on it.
Math = $14460
I Really do want a M/T but Im definetly hesitant b/c Ive never had a stick before. I know how to drive and my friend is teaching me how to drive a stick properly on his 98 Prelude SH. I just am concerned that Im a student and the payment really isnt too expensive for me because I really dont have much else to pay for besides cell phone bills and various other things but what Im mainly concerned about is the Brembro Brakes and other little problems that Ive heard people are having with the 6 M/T's. I just read a thread about the brakes and the dealer charging $3200 and I dont have that much to spend on maintance for a car that Im not going to keep. Im not talented enough to do the brakes by myself either so I will be forced to have the dealer do them (unless someone wants to volenteer in the NY/NJ/MD area
) What I love about the A/T is that theres really not too much maintance assosiated with it, Oil changes, Scheduled Service and thats about it. But man... I love the feeling of stick, its just soo much more... enpowering (is that even a word?) Im indifferent towards the color, I love TB and IP, It was a toss up when I was getting the car. Other little facts include the owner is selling it b/c hes getting a 911 carerra (good excuse
), he said he Babied it and he said honestly that yes he has driven the car to 110 and thats max and that was after break in, so I think I'll have to go with his word that he didnt beat the car thatt badly. Hes about 35. I drive my car at about 75-85 constantly and onceee in a while ill go x > 100, so Its beleiveable that he does the same.
I just need advice guys, I know its a good deal and Im sure I can get him to even pay for some of the monthly payments (about 20-30 bux) I'm really in a quandry and I figured I can ask you guys some help, Esp the M/T guys, And please no flame about how if I cant afford it, dont get it because I got the car because I love it, I dont like to ask my parents for money because they themselves arent wealthy (middle to upper middle class). I just need honest advice because I will be basing my choice soley on 25% my bias and 75% your advice. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.

sounds like a good trade, but if i was you i would try to get an 05 6mt, cause you'll be paying more money for almost the same car. And plus on the 05 the brakes are covered under warranty so you dont have to worry about that
So you are hung up on what?
1.) Bigger monthly payment
2.) Not extremely condifent with the stick
3.) Possibly more expensive maint?
Well, here's my opinions...
1.) If you can afford the larger monthly payment, then go for it....plenty of upside to the new lease.
2.) You'll learn, I wouldn't even make this a factor.
3.) It is not going to be much more expensive to maintain. You can buy whatever rotors and brake pads you want, so if you don't really care, money won't be an option. But if you want good rotors and pads, well, then obviously it will cost more. This would be true for either car.
I say go for it. I can't see enough of a reason not to.

First of all, you're learning how to drive stick, so you're already beyond the initial hurdle of never even having driven stick before.
You will continue to get better, and you will appreciate the difference over the automatic. You already have an idea of how much more involved (in a good way) that having a stick shift is. I had to drive an auto loaner for two days, and I missed the manual a lot. It's just a different approach to driving.
On the Brembo issue, I thank God that my G has those on it. I drive a lot in Chicago, and they have saved me on several occasions. Many times it is when the driver in front of you could do something so insanely stupid and uncomprehensible, that by the time you slam the brakes, any lesser braking system, and I would have needed a new front end. The Brembos do their job and are worth it. A new hood, front piece, alignment, frame damage cost much more than new pads and rotors.
If you can deal with the extra $50 a month, go for the manual.
On a side note, I heard my Passport 8500 x50 Laser warning for the first time last night. Scared the hell out of me and I'm glad it did, cause (with no one close behind) I got onto the brakes just in time. Some other poor soul got nailed by the cop shooting his laser gun at the pack of cars I was in. This was on Lake Shore Drive around midnight, near Addison. So beware in Chicago, they do have lasers in a few of their cars.
