How does the navi unit work? Does it require some kind of internet connection?

XM already has it as an add-on service to their satellite radio service, called NavTraffic. The new Acura RL's nav system has that capability built-in. The aftermarket Pioneer AVIC-N2 also has that capability.

If I were you I'd be more worried about the fact that many cars now come with black boxes. Now when you're getting an "oral treat" from your girl and accidently drive through a playground during recess the old "the brakes just stopped working!" won't cut it.
