Got my first ticket in New Jersey tonight....

Im 26 years old and this is my first speeding ticket. Not sure how I've lasted this long, but this really pisses me off. I turned onto Rt.46 in Mountain Lakes, NJ...I then punched it(just for kicks) and I let off..I was just doing past 60...i started slowing down and out of now where, this cop pulls out and immediately throws on his lights. I pulled right over and waited(should've F'n took off)...Make a long story short, he gave me a ticket for doing 65 in a 45. It sucks becuase most of that highway is a 55mph speed limit and only for about two blocks is it 45mph. I dont have any points on my license or any tickets like it and he still gave me a F'n ticket...If anyone ever is in the area, he hides out next to the Hess Gas station with all of his lights off.

I should go and key the **** out of his car one night. Why are cops such "richard" heads man...im definitely going to the court date to have the ticket reduced to no points and just fine...any other ideas on what my options are...I just don't want any points on my license, so I don't care about the price of the ticket...

Take the advice of MrElussive and pay the extra money and get the points taken off. On the other hand, you know this cop heard your coupe comming and when he clocked you at 65 in a 45 it didn't matter if you were letting off it or not. Get a good radar detector it will save you a lot of money in the long run. I would suggest a V1 or escort

Speeding tickets are always a pain, and the first one will always leave you with a really sour taste. Do what you can to clear it up, but at the end of the day you did get caught, and its probably time to get a radar. Hardwire it above the mirror; always leave it on. I wouldn't go anywhere without mine. In my area towns change every 5 miles and they all have some type of a speed trap. The first ticket I got the cop was a real @ss. It was 2am I am on a 6 lane highway no one anywhere to be seen. He got me going 54 in a 40. I told him this is the first time I've ever been pulled over, and he's like

"Ya I know, but I'm sure you have been speeding a lot more than this before, so consider this ticket is for all the times we didn't catch you also." I was livid, but I kept my mouth shut.
I ordered my radar detector the next day.

I was just driving down 46 Tuesday night right where you got that ticket and noticed the change from 55 -->45. You have to be careful in this area cops LOVE to ticket G's.

If you got busted in a short 45mph zone, when everywhere else on that road is 55mph, it's probably an easy kill zone / speed trap for cops ... doesnt help that the G35 is easily noticeable either!

go through the motions with the ticket & court appearance - hire a lawyer if you so desire - and put this behind you. then get an escort passport 8500 x50 or a valentine V1! my escort has saved my **** more times than i can count!

I'm sorry to hear that man, I got pulled over in the morning driving to college, 48 in a 30. Luckily he let me off with an obstructed view for my parking tag. Definitely go to court and try to get the prosecuter to bump it down to unsafe driving, no points, but a higher fee. I paid $180 including the court fee about two years ago, but i am sure that has gone up.

Definitely a speed trap. That's why they drop the speed limit there. Pure revenue collection.

Anyway, I agree with the previous recs to fight it and perhaps hire a lawyer if you don't feel comfortable tackling it yourself in court.

One other great resource for fighting tickets:
www.ticketkiller.com
I've used it once and it worked very well with local cops.

I am an NJ resident aswell, and know where you are talking about. I was pulled about a month ago for going 88 in a 65 on 287 North (right before exit 9, they hide in the weigh station). I managed to talk my way out of it with just a warning for speeding, but he gave me a ticket for my tint (15%). Aside from doing his job and pulling me over, he was a nice guy, I know I got lucky.

From that moment up until I got my V1, I have obeyed the speed limit (we all know it isn't easy). My advice to you would be to take your chances in court, and see if the judge can reduce the amount of points, and hopefully reduce the fine.

I have a really good attorney in NJ that specializes in DWI and traffic stuff... His name is Ron Mondello and his website is www.municipalcourt.com he is in Fair Lawn... Nice guy and if he doesn't think its worth his expense to go to court with you, he will tell you straight up and not charge you... good luck

You guys are lucky. Able to pay a fine and get no points.

Still, you're 26 and you have such an immature attitude towards cops? Shoulda ran from the cops (and thus face a misdemeanor at least instead of just a fine) or key his car (also leading to more serious trouble than just a fine). Yeah, we all speed. But, instead of taking it out on the cop, maybe put a little more effort into not getting caught in the first place? Radar detector? Pay attention and don't speed in speed trap zones (look on the internet, there are sites out there that tell you common speed traps in your area).

I feel your pain. I got my first ticket last week for 90mph in a 55mph on the massspike in Boston. The worst part is that my radar detector died about 2 weeks ago and I was just in the process of ordering a new one.

I was just going to pay it but after reading this I may take the 'hearing request' option. He didn't have me on radar but he said it was clocked/estimated. Not sure what I can argue in court except apologize and say it is my first ticket (clean record). That doesn't sound like a great argument in court.

Not a big fan of pigs right now...just got ticketed for 50 in a 35. They had a big Durrango parked on one of the side streets with 2 bike cops sitting behind it gunning people as they drove home from work. Why do they have to be so sneaky??? I guess I'll go to court and try to get the 4 points off my record.
