G35 Coupe V35 2003 - 07 Discussion about the 1st Generation V35 G35 Coupe

Why would one trade in an 04' 6mt for an 05 6mt?

The OP was obviously just trolling. As to the weight, "This is because the weight of the 19in rim, even if identical to the 18in rim weight, will theoretically weigh more when spinning due to the increased rotational mass from the increased wheel diameter." demonstrates the OP's knowledge of physics.

The OP has a member name, who are you referring to? As to the wheel weight, again, which 18" wheels are you referring to, the G or Z track ones? I wasn't comparing the 19" and Z track 18" against each other in a scientific sense. I should have made it clear I was only drawing an analogy between the two being forged/lightweight, so they are the performance wheels the G and Z respectively come with. The comparison initiated by the author of this thread was between the '03/04 G35 18" and the '05 19", you can go ahead and prove your point to him since you know physics that well.

Ok professor Hawkings, explain to me how an 18in wheel weighing Xlbs has more rotational mass than a 19in wheel weighing the same.

And don't refer to me as an acronym, just say my user name.

Not a chance!

I AM the type who likes the higher performance/$, as if that wasn't blatantly obvious by my original post, LOL

I also read on the long term G35 Coupe that the editors where anxious to get their hands on the '05 because of the upgrades...one being stickier tires. So maybe when they do the test with the lighter rims, same rotational mass, and stickier tires the car will gain in terms of lateral G's?

That will certainly be interesting!

By the way, what is a stickier tire I can put on the stock 18in rims on my 04?

I think everyone is forgetting the torque loss. The 05's are slower.

Torque > Horsepower
Brembos > Nonbrembos
04 > 05

And what are you basing this on? Not enough people have even tested the '05's yet to see if they are faster or slower......my guess is they will be identical.

To the rear wheels the car supposedly loses about 8lb/ft of torque and gains about 15rwhp, that should offset each other.

If you think brembos are better than having a classier interior, then thats your opinion. As for me, yes i would like to have brembos, but I wouldn't "feel" a difference and it would only be a minor cosmetic touch, but the interior in MY opinion is a major cosmetic upgrade.

Sounds like you should be driving a Buick.

Sounds like you should be driving a Subaru. I tried my best to take your post seriously btw but with that member name of yours it sounded all too amusing

why? I like sports cars, but the main difference with the brembos is long term wear on track use....personally i dont go to the track, drag strip i do go to, but brembo's aren't needed. In any normal situation you shouldn't feel any difference with the brembos going from one point to another, even if you slam on the brakes.

A buick has a sh*tty interior and is not sporty

Sounds like you should be driving a Mitsubishi Evo

Buicks are nice A g35 is a nice ride with its gearing. 50% of its gearing is for above 100 mph. Now do you want to drag race a stock car or do you want to race on a long track.
Infinity has done a nice job. 2004 will hold its own on a drag strip. a 2005 6mt will clean a 2004 clock on a long track. Are they any better? Sure the 2005 will give use all more to play with. I bet somebody this year will break the 300rwhp dyno with a 2005 06mt. And like you said Buicks are nice but the Infinti is becoming a cult. Enjoy your ride. I just like what I have and feel lucky when I get to drive it. What a car!! Damn does it look bad *** just sitting there.

Based on what?

Fact: 05 Horsepower gain will be offset by loss of torque
Fact: 05 brakes will begin to fade more quickly than Brembos when on track
Fact: 05 wheels will have a higher rotational mass than the 04

So how does the 04 get its 'clock cleaned' by an 05 on a road course?

If anything, the 2 cars will be neck and neck, with the 04 slightly ahead. Nothing major.

I think SaltiDawg needs to chime in again. I wish I were more eloquent when it comes to explaining physics but I'm not so someone please let ScapGF know what the deal with the '05 wheels is and why they do NOT have a higher rotational weight.

Enjoy yours cars and stop whining,

04 Has Brembos
04 Stiffer Clutch
04 Ugly Gauges and Interior

05 Lighter Clutch
05 Nicer Wheels
05 Nicer gauges and Interior is night and day
05 Updated and Refined

Its upgraded and refined and its got all the things the 04 doesnt just missing the brembos, to everyones tatste, 04 does feel more sporty because of the clutch and roaring engine but the 05 is not far behind, I would choose 05 over 04 and ive drivin my cousins 04 6mt i would take 05 because of the interior its really a big deal. But i Love the 04 IP on Black interior.
