There was a fair amount of discussion on this a year ago (or so). The paint, or whatever it is, on the top of the shift, where the shift pattern is etched, starts to peel. Mine did. I seem to recall that some folks got theirs replaced under warranty.

The shift doesn't have to be abused for the problem to appear. I know I don't abuse mine. OTOH, I didn't get mine fixed. Once the flaking stopped, I can't see much difference between the paint and the bare metal.

leather is a wear item probably not covered under warranty. Thats like trying to get worn leather seats replaced under warranty.

I bought my G with 16K on it. Some old chick used to drive it with long finger nails. Anyways she had scratched the hell out of the shift *** and her husband took the car to the dealership and they replaced the *** under warrantee. Though they wouldnt touchup all of her scratches on the paint under the door handles...

yeah...it's the painted part that's peeling, not the leather....and the car is under warranty and doesn't seem like it was abused at all....maybe I should try to remove the rest of the paint and see how it looks...

and this I'm sure has been beaten to death, but will the dealer do anything (or is there anything to be done) for the clicking clutch? I get just a couple of clicks when using it...

I have the same problem (on both my shifter and wheel). Dealer said they would replace it when I bring it in for my next service (30k).

If you're still within the 3/36, it shouldn't be a problem. I had a peeling problem on my grille, on the center logo, and Infiniti took prompt action on it and replaced the whole thing. The only problem you should have is just taking the time for the dealer to replace it. Good Luck!
