When you guys rev-match downshift, do you engage the clutch slow and smooth or quick?

I'm relatively new to driving stick but am getting pretty comfortable driving it now. I was just wondering how quickly you guys let off the clutch pedal when you are rev-match dowshifting. It seems liek whenever i let off the clutch pedal too fast, there is a jerk, but when i do it smooth, there is no jerk. Give me some tips! thanks!

If there's a jerk, you're not rev-matched correctly. Just keep practicing and before long, it'll become so natural that you'll have to make a conscious effort to not rev-match.

I let go of the clutch pretty fast. If you matched correctly, there shouldnt be a sudden jerk. You have to be pretty much on the dot. Also, if you have a precise rev match, you dont even need the clutch to engage. Thats when you know you have your rev matches absolutely perfect. Just practice...you'll eventually get it

I did that today in traffic today (on accident...some idiot in front of me hit their brakes hard and i had to slam on the brakes and my right arm jerked forward and hit the shifter and it went out of and into another gear without the clutch) and my re-action was..."OH Shi!!"

The amount of rev matching (or throttle you give when rev matching) dictates how much time you have to ease off the clutch.

Rev match high enough and you have considerable time to ease off the clutch, but rev match just a tad above where the RPM would be when in that specific gear will not give you much time to slowly release and and youll have to do it quick. Both methods work and both are smooth if done right. You just have to practice and find what works for you. Just don't be revin near redline...unless you see me on the road

if youre going down only one gear, you only have to rev-match like 600 rpm's higher than what youre in already. it takes just a blip of the gas to match it, pretty fun if u ask me!

also, if youve rev-matched PERFECTLY, u can just dump the clutch and it will grab perfectly, but that takes a lil practice!...

You don't have to engage the clutch to put it in gear when you are upshifting/downshifting. You just need to have the right amount of revs before you put the shifter nto gear. It'll go right in just like butter if you get it JUST right. If not, you won't even get past the gates.

Okay, say your car is moving, and you're out of gear. All you have to do is rev match to the exact RPM needed to push the shifter into gear. This can be achieved without the clutch. Like i said, this takes alot of practice. If you're off by even a little, it will grind. I mean...you dont have to do this...i just think its fun to do...It just lets you know if you know your matches perfectly

I believe they are saying that you shift into Neutral, Rev-Match, then Downshift/Upshift (without engaging the clutch)....I could be wrong.
