Mikes rearview mirror radar mount
Ive been wanting to order Mikes (from my350z.com) V1 rearview mirror mount for my G coupe. But i havnt seen any G drivers using it. I have the homelink mirror, and ive seen numerous pics of Z's with it installed on the same mirror, so i would assume it fits, can anyone confirm this, so i dont have to find out the hard way. thanks guys.

I've had Mike's mount for a while for the Escort. I relaly like the mod because I think its in a good location and can get a clear view of the road with the radar.
As far as it hanging on the rear view, mine was pretty solid - even with a sub cranking out some good bass never had a problem with it falling off. What I did was put a layer of masking tape around the mount that sticks into the radar (You don't actually see this) so that made it have a nice tight fit..
I actually just sold my mount to someone on the boards though because of the fact I work in Virginia (where the damn radars are illegal) and was always concerned about pulling up next to cops and them seeing it so for now I mounted it up high via the suction cups next to the rear view. If VA had them legal I would have kept my mount though. If its hardwired it looks good.

I do not know how many police cars in VA are equipped to do so, but some are able to use ECM and detect the RF emissions of your Radar Detector. Years ago I had co-worker that got pulled over at like 3:00AM in VA on the way to Dulles from MD for operating a Radar Detector. Hefty fine.
Again, I don't know how common it is for the police cars in VA to have the required equipment, but the point is that your Detector actually is transmitting at an extremely low, but detectable level.

Thanks for that info. I've just gotten into the habit though of as soon as I get into VA, I turn it off. I'll never keep it on - its just not worth it. However, even with it off I think they'll still ticket you if they see it in plain view (Which would happen with Mike's mount because its right underneath the mirror). With the location its at now, I dont think they can see it and with it off, they cant detect it. Is my logic correct?

V1 Mount
ChuckP -
Mike's mount works great for the V1. I have had it for a few months now. It fits perfectly around the rear view mirror. Then, his mount screws onto one of the V1's mounts (the suction cup mount).
The only problem that I had with his mount was that it angled the V1 at a really crappy angle. I think the radar detector was basically pointed straight down. I unscrewed the metal piece from his mount and flattened it. I have heard of people applying pressure on it with their hands to do this but I guess I don't weight enough because that didnt work. So, I covered it with a rag and used a hammer. Worked out perfectly.
Then, to top the whole thing off, you should hard wire it as that is a very easy process also and looks great. I ran mine through the headliner, down the a-pillar and to the fuse box. Good luck in whatever you do.

It is against Defense Department Rules to use a Radar Detector in a vehicle on a DOD base or facility. I have only seen token enforcement of this rule.
EDIT: I believe that I was mistaken about DC - every site I visited indicates that indeed Radar Detectors are illegal to operate in VA & also DC. While I no longer drive into the District very often, I have been fortunate!
