How to tell if a G is abused

It looks like I will be trading in for a 6spd. The car has 18k on it, before I purchase it shoudl I take it to the infiniti dealership to make sure everything is ok? How can I tell if this G was abused or not? I think im definetly gonna ask the mechanic how the clutch and brake pads are. Any other suggestions?

is this used G from a dealer or private party? either way, try to get all the receipts and paperwork for maintenance, repairs, and warranty work performed on the car. if they don't have 'em/won't give it to you, imply a "risk premium" and deduct off the price of the car (off of, say, Edmund's True Market Value or TMV). also, you might want to check out carfax, tho you might spend $ on the report that'll get you nothing.

lastly, you'd want to consider who the driver is/was (if it's private party) and/or how many owners went through it. the car should ideally have no more than 1 owner, esp. for a 1-yr old car. also, if this was a lady and/or older driver, you can probably assume that the car wasn't abused, but if you're buying it from a teenage punk, watch out! good luck!

Take it to a car doctor lol...How to tell if a car has been abused just reminded me of that carfax commercial with the red prelude where the doctor is sitting in a room with the car asking it a bunch of questions.

Do a carfax. The carfax should be spotless.

Ask who drove it before why they sold it (they will always give you a decent story); then check the crumple zones and look for any signs of repainting. Then check things like the tires/brakes and general wear and tear (does it look like it was taken care of). Check the spare tire, make sure it has two keys look and for anything that might hint the car has been through some type of trama. Also, make sure there's no mods on the car. Drive the car and push it hard, your spending a lot of money; don't be afraid to do this. Listen for anything that doesn't sound right. Test everything hit all the buttons; bring some cd's.

At the end of the day the g35 is generally a reliable car and do you have the warrenty to cover the major items. You will be saving a lot of money by buying it used.

Keep in mind that most sports cars will be abused somewhat. The only problem is that the 6mt in the 03s were unreliable and prone to grinding however, the powertrain will keep you covered for about 4 years. The clutch is another problem though and will cost roughly $1500 to replace (through Infiniti). Its your call...if I were switching from 6mt to 5at, I wouldn't worry too much but from 5at to 6mt, just keep a piggy bank with $1500 just in case. Good luck.

you have to accept the fact that the car would have been driven hard.... i cant imagine any G owner who wouldnt have driven their cars hard.

but here the good part... the car is capable of taking it... its designed and made to be driven hard.

all you gotta find out is if he took it to the track or made any performance modification. If he did I would take a step back and be more cautious... but if he drove it around the town and more than I would consider it.
However do take it to the dealer and pull all the service records for peace of mind.

The G's drivetrain is pretty sturdy. I would look closely at the brakes and clutch for unusual wear. Also check service records to see what TSBs were performed.

ask if he is on any G35 forums and what his screenname is. then search for his posts and see if he brags about doing donuts or racing.
