Question very slow acceleration in 4th + 5th

wonder if anyone could explain this to me:
in manumatic mode on the AT i find that 4th and 5th gear acceleration sucks. both when i start in manumatic mode and go from 1-2-3-4... and when i switch it into manumatic from automatic and it automatically is at 4th gear. yet, when i switch it back to automatic the acceleration is much much better and its obviously still in 4th gear.
is it just me? may something be wrong or is this normal and why?
thx in advance

when your in automatic the car shifts down when you hit the gas, and thats why it feels faster. If you were in manumatic and was at about 60mph you would be in 4th gear and down shifted into 3rd and gave it gas you would get the same reaction as it would it automatic.

well let's see....
4th goes to like 120 or 130mph....
If you take 3rd all the way it redlines around 100mph.
If you are doing less than 80 or 85mph in 4th and stuff th gas in the floor
(while in MM) you won't feel much till you are at 95+

If you are gonna drive in MM, as G35coupe1985 said, drop to 3rd start accelerating and then up shift to 4th.

Now, I am not certain (and too lazy and tired to go look right now) but I remember seeing in the manual that Torque converter is locked up in all gears in MM, where as in automode it only locks up once you reach a certain point in 4th and 5th.

assuming your testing the cars acceleration at WOT. if not it's pointless to compare the auto and manumatic mode. if you floor it while in auto mode, i'm assuming anything below 70 mph will put the car in 3rd gear at least. it's beyond your control. so obviously you testing 4th gear in manumatic will seem slower if you're testing it from 30 mph. the only way you can be sure the auto acceleration is actually in 1st gear is if you're going 80+ mph. once again all acceleration tests should be done at WOT or it's pointless.

There is nothing wrong with 4th and 5th gear on your G. I suggest going to a library and reading up on how transmissions work.

Why do you think there are different gears in the first place? Why not just have one really fast gear!

Bottom line - You should not be expecting to pull hard accelerating in 4th gear at 30 mph. There is nothing wrong with your car.

Its kinda hard to explain how it works, but thats just how it is on any vehicle, any transmission. Thats how gears work.

yes man, in MM you have to gear down yourself. In Auto mode it downshifts automatically.

Well not really. The CVT transmission does not really work like that. Its got one "real" gear that changes gear ratios automatically dependent on speed, rpms, etc... Its not all that great but you should try to see if infiniti can put one in for you.

There is nothing wrong with the car....until you figure things out....stay within the speed limit....you might kill someone.

Let's see this problem as an analogy with a bicycle... with gears. Remember how easy it was to pedal on 1st gear? But when you get to the 21st gear (or whatever is highest for you) ... it was almost impossible to start riding the bicycle at this gear unless you stood up. The same concept goes for cars. The higher in gear you put the car, the more power will be needed to get the bike(in our case, car) into the same speed as if you were in a lower gear... maybe I make no sense... but just go outside and ride your bicycle... you'll get it.
