First oil change

I just finished breaking-in my G (over 1,200 miles), and was wondering what is a recommended milage for the first oil change. My dealer (sales person) told me that I should come in for an oil change at 3,500 miles, but I was wondering if the first one needs to be done sooner.
Let me know what milage everyone else is changing their oil at.
Thanks.

Re: First oil change

I changed mine at 2k miles to be safe. I figured there was bits of metal from the break-in there and didn't want to take a chance. (filter too of course).
Some of the guys have waited 'till 3k or 4k and it's prolly ok to do so. I just feel better changing early. It's a cheap investment. My next one will be at 5k miles.
If you go by the O/M then it's not due until about 4k miles.

Re: First oil change

I changed mine at 1800 miles. Basically right after the breakin. I didn't want to keep that factory oil in the car and longer than I have too. I have heard that it's always good practive though from several people to get rid of the breakin oil as soon as the period is over. It will never hurt the car but it may make rev a little smoother. Peace.

Re: First oil change

Most people change it after the break-in period (around 1,200 miles).

Re: First oil change

I will be changing it at 2000 miles. I have too many cars all the time to remember which one needs an oil change so I always just change the oils whenever an even thousand rolls up on the odometer. So - I am changing at 2, 4, 6, 8, etc.

I am a fan of Mobile 1 and Puralator Pure One filters.

Re: First oil change

I changed it right after the break in too. Around 1400 miles because I bought the car with 200 already on it. Can't really hurt anything by doing it, right?

Re: First oil change

I changed mine around 3600 miles at the dealership. I used regular oil and the factory filter. I noticed that the car was much faster in the upper RPMs.

Re: First oil change

Just be careful about changing your oil too soon. If you put in synthetic oil it STOPS the break-in process. Therefore, you want to wait until the manufacturer's suggested mileage before changing.

Re: First oil change

We beat this synthetic topic up pretty hard on another thread....

I changed mine (oil and filter) at 1900 and change (as previously said "just to be safe.")...I'll be cutting over to Mobil1 at the second SCHEDULED oil change as per my service manager's recommendation....

Oil changes are like voting in Louisiana...do it early and do it often and you'll have no problems.

Re: First oil change

i changed oil+filter at 1400 miles and put Mobile1 synthetic 5w30 in there at the Dealership
The break-in happens in the first few hundred miles anyway.....we go 1200 just to be safe.....why wait longer to put synthetic?
Its like putting on 5 condoms when banging.....when all you need is 1.
