So...Is there a better way to cut a rim out of a pic other than the lasso? Or do you just have to keep guessing until you get the perfect lasso?

Lasso is not any good for precision, so don't worry about it.

Zoom in a bit.
Draw a simple elipse. Dont' worry about size.
Turn on quick-mask. (find out how if you don't know)
Choose "edit-free transform"
Move the handles to aligh the elipse with the edges of the wheel.
Click the CHECK to accept.
Choose Layer-new-Layer via Cut.

You now have a layer without a wheel and one with just the wheel. Do the same with the other wheel. Use the layers as needed.

free transform isnt needed, hit "V" to use the "Move tool" with "Show Bounding Box" checked to align/ size the ellipse...

Doesn't work in my copy of CS. The image under the elipse section deformes as you change it, this way.

thanks for everyones efforts, but I thought I was getting the car shaded black, not the wheels cut out. No worries, I found this site that shows how to do all kinds of photoshop stuff relevant to car freaks like us.. Now my pics still look like crap, but at least I know what Im doing.
