That comparison sucked. They used the 530i since the 545 was 1K over their max price limit for the comparison.

I'm sorry but the 545i is still king in my book. 6 speed manual with a beautiful V8. The M45 is a great competitor, much better value, but lacks a manual and sportiness of the 545.

Bottom line, German cars are better when you have the extra $$$. Dollar for dollar, you get much more for your money with a Japanese car. But German cars are known to be more stable, solid, powerful, assuming you spend the extra $ for the higher end models. I would NEVER spend more than $50K on a japanese car, but I would be glad to spend $100K for a Porsche 997. Likewise, german cars in the 30-50k price range are typically weak. With the germans, you just need more money.

M3 is the better car, Just like a Porshce 911 Turbo is better than a M3, a Ferrari is better than a Porchse it all comes down to money, the more you have the nicer things you can get. Not everything is about quality and what would smoke what. There is name, class, feel, prestige, please lets not be all G35 is the best. Every car has something that another one lacks, i can name good things about the G and bad things about it to, same goes for the M3, lets be intelligent people and understand things apropriatly, you guys are begging to sound like *****

 

Well that's very true, but how i also see the M3 compared to a porsche 996 or 997 base Carrera is, the M3 is still the solid performer in performance, pretty mucha n even match but M3 will pull, its a fact guys and the interior of the M3 IMO is still much, much nicer! My car with a SC will be beyond 996TT performance level and as far as interior? I feel its way ahead of a porsche turbo also, i dont like my friends at all, that's my opinion though

I drive a G35. I love the car. I'd take a BMW M3 or a 545 in a second over the G or any other Japanese car. Sorry to burst anyones bubble...

^^^^ I was all excited to see and drive the new 545's after looking at the mag pictures and BMW brochure, but in real life the car is hardly more distinguishable than a Honda Accord. Also, the new active steering that comes with the sport package on the 5 series is about the most awkward steering mechanism I've ever come across. Having the steering ratio change on you while driving is just a bad idea.

With many cars, you can add F/I and coilovers, etc etc but the M3 from the factory has TOTAL BALANCE that makes it one of the worlds greatest cars, which is amazing for the price. The M3 is legendary and will continue so when the V-8 M3 comes in the E90.

And for the m3 driver to beat a G35, well, the M3 is SUPPOSED to beat it.

This IS true. We should be comparing apples to apples.....

330ci = G35 Coupe

2006 M3 = 2007 GT-R

Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, this is what it boils down to.

Besides, the M3 is basically a bored out, cam-upgraded, gear modified, tighter suspensioned 330i. Does this account for 20K extra? Probably. Can the same technology be applied to the G Coupe for the same money? Most definitely.

Will a modified G with the same upgrades (longer duration cams, balanced crank, ported head, shorter gear ratios) SMOKE an M3? Absolutely.

Are our cars better than 330's? Of course.

So what's with the disrespect to the Japanese? Who the **** are "the germans" anymore? I've owned plenty of kaiser cars, and I'm finally happy to switch over to the Japanese brand. I just lease returned a 530i and a 323ic, I can say with great certanty that I will NEVER buy/lease a BMW again. The cars are poor quality and the service sucks. The service dept coffee is good though.

As for the M3, yes, yes, I love the way it drives. But I'm pretty sure I'll love the way a 2007 GT-R will drive even better.
