05 AT G coupe owner has a question with brakes.

sup all, its been a month since i got my G coupe.
anyways, i've noticed since the day one that these brakes suck compare to other cars IMO
i have 02 maxima which i assume its bit lighter than G but its brakes are darn better than G.
its awfully stupid to compare with brembo 4 piston calipers to 2 piston stock calipers but i wanna hear some more about these brakes esp nonbrembo users(stock brake users)
i've try not to post this on here but i almost got into an accident because i overestimated my brakes. hahaha...
i dont have any mods yet but if i am going to do modify, brakes are my no.1 list.
any others with this issue?

Uhhh...you do realize that the G35 stock non-brembos have the best brakes in its class right (and hell of a lot better than your stock maximas)

i am really sorry about this thread...
maybe i should push the brakes harder?
because like i kinda pressed the brakes all the way (i was doing something and suddenly i saw the car so i braked kinda hard)
but i felt that i was not going to make it so i just changed the lane.
ok people, i will try *harder?* next time.
btw glad that our brakes are top notch!

You need to break in the pads, like 100 50mph-0 stops. By then the friction will go up nicely. These are excellent brakes. Nissan did not ditch Brembo for nothing.

hahaha...stupid me...i felt that the brakes were the biggest G's flaw

To get the best (ie highest) level of friction from new pads you must work them. The best way is to make a high number of medium-duty stops one after the other from, say, 50 mph.

This does of course wear the pads and the rotors but you will notice the difference.

I actually LOVE my 05 breaks and if I remember right they are not much different from the Brembos in stopping time / distance.

Braking 101: Bigger brakes do not necessarily stop a car faster. A car's ability to brake is ultimately dependent on the amount of friction between the tires and the road. That being said, the biggest key to good braking is to try and use 100% of each tire's available traction. This is not an easy task considering inconsistent road surfaces, varying weight shifts, inclined/declined roads, etc, etc. The closest you will likely get to this in most cases it so simply stomp the brakes and let the ABS do it for you(If your car has ABS). ABS will modulate each wheel(4-wheel ABS) to try and utilize all the available friction at each tire. And it will do so better than any person can. As a result, if you have the same tires, the braking will end up very similar regardless of which brakes you have. The advantage the Brembos had over AT brakes, was the size of the rotors. They had the ability to absorb more heat since they have more rotor mass and consequently, the larger size also adds additional surface area to dissapate heat as well. The 05 brakes are slightly smaller than the Brembos(Not sure of thickness though), so I'd expect they can handle a nearly as much heat.

In either case, if your ABS didn't activate, you likely were not stopping as fast as you could have. I will say though, that you should try not to try ans estimate your minimum stopping distance on the street. You may end up leaving yourself no way out should something occur that you didn't expect.

Lastly, I would also encourage everyone to find out what a full ABS stop feels like. Of course do this in a safe manner, perhaps on an empty road. Many people will have never experienced it and can initially feel like a lock-up and cause a person to try and modulate the brakes themselves instead of letting the car do it for them. Mercedes has test drive events about once each year in major metropolitan areas. They set up an ABS test point where you can get from a full throttle run to an immediate ABS stop in a poor traction condition(sand). It's actually quite fun to do. Especially with passengers. But I do notice many drivers tell me that their brakes lock-up when they are making a panic stop in accidents I investigate, despite the fact that they have ABS. I cringe when I hear this as I speculate they probably tried to modulate the pedal. Who knows, it might have been an accident they could have avoided...
