Re: G35 Coupe or S2000 ???

The Honda S2000 would be a really fun car for the weekends. Quick and good looks and with that 9000-RPM engine it’s probably the closet car to a street bike. But I’d choose my G35 Coupe as a daily driver.

Re: G35 Coupe or S2000 ???

I just went through this when I bought my car. There is NOTHING special about the S2000 anymore. It looks cheap now, while there is NOTHING cheap about the G. Plus, do you want to be a boyracer with a high revving over priced 4 cyl or drive a luxo racer with torque at every rev?

Not to mention functionallity....the S is too small to do anything in, except pretend you're not driving a big fast Miata!

Re: G35 Coupe or S2000 ???

I've owned an S2000 since 8/22/00 and have racked up 83k miles. It is great as a daily driver and performs better then any other car for the price. It may not be the dragster, but put it on a road course and it's pure heaven.

You really have to be a purist to understand the the car was not meant to be flashy, it was meant to be a driver's car. There are no electronic gizmos(traction control, stability control) to make you think you're a good driver. It only accepts your input and you get what you put into it.

Not many people understand the S2000, but those that do can prove that it is not a big Miata.

BTW,
I'm currently 4 months into my wait for the G35c to arrive. When it comes in, I'll tell you which one I like better.

Re: G35 Coupe or S2000 ???

I used to own a S2000 since 5/01, and you really can't compare the two cars. They are both totally different animals in totally different classes. If you enjoy top down driving, high revving engines, go kart handling which is superb, get the S2000. If you would like more luxury features, cabin space, quieter ride, but yet powerful and great handling, get the G35.

I drove the S2000 as a daily driver, and now the G35 Coupe 6MT as a daily driver. I was happy with both cars. The suspension on the S2000 is a lot stiffer so you feel more bumps. The G35 has nice features like climate control, electric adjustable seats, 6-8 speakers that can be swapped out if you don't like the Bose/Clarion (the S2000 only has door midrange and tweeter, and the deck really blows), and oh yeah... A BACK SEAT!

Both are great, and both are fun to drive. Test drive them both and decide for yourself. It's hard to get an ubiased response to this question since you posted it on an Infiniti forum, you will probably get the same kind of biased response on a S2000 forum as well.

Re: G35 Coupe or S2000 ???

After driving both for a relativily extended period of time, S2k since 2000 and G35 since about a month ago, they are both great cars. The S2000 is a screamer and does give you more of that race car feel but the G has a ton of class and is so smooth and peacefull. After driving the G for a while and getting in the S I did notice that I like the clutch and gearbox in the G more. It's probably just cause it's new but it feels smoother and for some reason shorter could be just a figment of my imagination though. In all honestey since I have gotten the G I haven't looked at the S the same. I haven't driven a 350 or even seen the drop top but I would include that in your comparsion before you jump into an s2k. Im sure the 350 convertable is a blast to drive too.

Re: G35 Coupe or S2000 ???

Kinda ironic the G35's are winning, considering this is the site of G35 owner enthusiast. Don't you think? lol....Of course dude, we think the G is a much better auto. Thats why we drive them.............

Re: G35 Coupe or S2000 ???

Of course posting a question like this on a board like this is biased. My reasons for a G35C...

-Can't drive stick (I know I'm not really a man)
-Can't see spending that much for a 2 seater
-Not a huge fan of convertibles (prefer a sunroof)

Don't get me a wrong. I'm still impressed when I see one on the road (you can't beat that front end) and I always give a smile and a nod to the driver. A nice car is a nice car, M3, S2000, G35 Sedan...can't we all just get along...at 85 MPH on the highway.

Re: G35 Coupe or S2000 ???

Pretty silly question since the S2000 costs less than what most of us paid. We'd have bought one if we wanted one. There may be a few people here who compromised because they needed a more functional automobile, but I personally never even looked at one when I was car shopping. I looked at the 330ci (my brother has one), an IS300 and a X-Type. Glanced at the 350Z after hearing about its connection with the G35. Glanced at the RX-8's specs because I like rotaries. My guess is you'll find more cross-appeal among the latter two crowds. But even if I could afford 2 cars in the $30k range, I wouldn't consider a S2000, there's too many other performance cars that hold more appeal to me.

That might be a better poll: If you were shopping for a second car, would you want the S2000 or Something Else? Or "would the S2000 be in your top 3 choices?" Hell, I'll go make something like that right now.

Btw, why didn't they badge it as an Acura? I bet they would sell more of them if they did.

Re: G35 Coupe or S2000 ???

They didn't badge it as an Acura because they have the NSX. They needed a gimmick for the Honda line, which is where the S2000 dropped right in. Not to mention the heritage in the HONDA line with the old S600/800's. Those were NOT Acuras!
