If one enters a dealership with the belief that there is little room to negotiate I can’t see how the price will come down from below what you believed going in.
In your case you knew that you could get the car (in MD) for $500 over invoice so you and your local (VA) dealer each had a decision to make. If the local dealer refused to match, he potentially lost a sale. If he chose to match, you were ahead and had the possible peace of mind of dealing locally.
In the case of military & Grubbs. The price is Invoice + $0 + $700 Shipping. No fees to FreshAlloy or anyone else. SO, with that in mind a military person could break even if the local dealer would accept Invoice + $700 as there is no shipping for the local dealer. For VPP this would work the same. If one is not otherwise eligible for VPP, I believe they can pay like a $100 at Fresh Alloy and thus become eligible. I wouldn't necessarily suggest that - really it would seem that your success and also mine and some other's was based on having the knowledge that we had the option of paying X dollars at an out-of-state dealer and allowing the local dealer to either match or near match that or lose the sale.
Congrats on a great deal and danjros may want to PM wnt1bd for his sales contact in MD - I suspect it is the same MD dealer that offered you the Invoice + $500.

I can't believe the best example of a success story would be working at a 7-11.
Sorry, just thought it was a knee slapper.

If you didn't get the story or reason for the example ... Try some kind of self help books to get with the picture ... Here's a link to get you started on your way www.biteme.com

ok so you're good at negotiating... what does that have to do with the topic at hand? I don't see what anyone can get from knowing about your experience at 7-11 lol... how is that contributing? seems like you're just jerking your own chain... now if you did an account of how you got your great deal at the Infiniti dealer then that's a different story... I mean I agree anyone can negotiate a good deal as long as they put their mind to it and do their homework... but maybe a more on topic example would be appropriate...
btw, no disrespect or anything, i'm sure you're very proud of your accomplishments and skills but if you can't see why a 7-11 story is off topic in a post titled 05 prices then you need to negotiate yourself some logic and reasoning skills lol
now let me share my own advice. Different dealer markets are going to be harder to get a good deal than others... it all depends on your timing and their willingness to deal. A good strategy is to call all the dealers in your area and see if they have the car you want at the price you want. Starting at or below invoice as your negotiation point is a good idea. Don't get too caught up in dealer BS, know that you can get the car anywhere and don't let the dealer rush you into anything saying that the car is hard to find, etc. Take your time but also know what you're willing to pay... if you're comfortable paying $1000 over invoice then do it as long as that's what you want to do...

I can guarantee that there are others here that are financially successful, young and old, and have done it without the silver spoon. Yes, there are 'the others' but those are best to leave alone in hopes they'll grow another day.
It's simply perceived as a bit cheesy. Someone that may have developed a 'thin skin', perhaps without the realization, but certainly not a leader.
Congrats to you and your successes. I just don't want to have to read another quickie-mart success story again, even if it is supposed to contain an underlying agenda.
this thread has gone way off and I don't think I got anything out of it... I'm getting a 05 coupe 6MT soon so can anyone clarify this once again?
From what i was able to gather, its almost impossbile to get a 05 coupe 6MT for $500 above invoice? If not how much above invoice is the most probable lowest pricing i would be able to get in north california?
thanks guys

Timing of purchasing an '05 for Memorial Day:
When do you think is the ideal time to buy: 1. Over Memmorial Day weekend, when dealerships are trying to get their numbers up, or 2. After Memorial Day, when sales are slow again.
Weigh in w/ your opinions please.

LOL this thread is funny.
BTW... LOCATION MATTERS. Supply and Demand. I always hear people getting great deals but almost never in CA. The original poster will have no problem getting this car for 250 blah blah over invoice because of his location.
But g35vision is also right that with good negotiation skills, you can get the price you want. i got mine around 500 above invoice in the bay area(6mt, fully loaded). but anyways, stop being so cocky and closed minded.
