Well, I don't want to continue the battle, but...........I ran a 14 flat at 101.12 mph with only a Intake. Several Z's ran the same night and were runiing 14.3-14.5 one 18.8 but you know that was a screw up. Most of the Z's had intakes or exhausts. 1 Z ran a 13.6 w/intake and test pipes. 05's are clearly faster with the 298 hp vs. 280 or even 287 hp.

You managed to reel him back in from a .368 lead to just .016... ...with more weight, less TQ and only 11HP more. Certainly the performance of the two is close enough that it will always be a driver's race, as many of us have contended, but the time-slip you provided reflects performances not exactly equal. Your ride very nearly compensated for your bad reaction time. You ran a faster time when you did better on your reaction time, even though that reaction time was still slower than the '04's.

I know, the difference in performance is all academic and rarely an issue on the road. Driver ability will almost always be the deciding factor, even in car's with a 50HP difference.
Reaction times have nothing to do with our races. The timer does not start until you leave out of the box...hence, reaction times mean nothing. Reaction times only matter in heads up racing, like the NHRA races you see on TV.
Another thing, the '03 and '04 coupes have 280hp...i think you might be thing of the '03 and '04 Z that has the 287hp.

Does anyone think the 05s would be faster with the 18s due to rotational mass? Why is the new coupe heavier?

I realize that the G's had only 280 and the Z's had 287 that's why I posted both numbers. The 05's are still faster with less torque more horsepower, AND move rpm range. Everyone forgets about the extra couple hundred rpms that you get in an 05. If you have 2 equal drivers(not likely) and a 05 vs 04 the 05 will win.

Supposely the new 18" rims are somewhat forged. I plan to weigh mine once I get the car to see how much it weighs with the tire on it.

Here's a Thread where wckdg35 weighed his 19" stock rims and they weighed in at 49 lbs with the tire.

I noticed while racing that he did shift before me but any ground I would gain would be lost when i shifted, so it really didn't matter.

wnt1bd~ You live in cooler weather and probably a better track, speedworld is known for its shotty track conditions....I still stand by my conclusion that 05's are not faster. In fact if we were street racing he would of killed me, that is if I caught the light like I did at the track. Every race, when I beat him or not on ET he was always ahead of me by like 3 cars or so.

Checked on Tire Racks webs site, the tire weight is 30 lbs. So that says the wheels are 19 lbs, which is light for a 19" wheel.

How high can you rev 05s? I know its 7000 redline but does it go above that without hitting the rev limiter? Because every 03-04 I drove revs to 6900 rpms without hitting the rev limiter.

You are correct.....the '05 19"s do weigh 19 lbs. Actually the rears might weigh a little more since they are a 0.5 in wider.

My '05 hits at ~7300 RPM

trap speed shows the horsepower difference.
the 60 feet shows the torque difference.

^^completely wrong, my best 60' ft of the night was better than his, there were times where he trapped higher than me.......it just depends on the run.

Lightforce18~ Where in the world have you been. I have never said the 05's are faster than the 04's and the #'s don't show that either. There has only been 1 test of the 05's that I know of and I think it was 0-60 @ 5.8 sec but when a few more mags test I'm sure they will do better and probably get the same 5.5.
