Stock 05 vs stock 04 races

Tonight me and 98intrigue went to the local dragstrip in Bithlo to get some runs in. We are completely bone stock (not even z tube) and we both have 6mt's. The first run we don't go against each other but I manage to pull off 14.421@97.15mph with a 2.174 60'.

The next run we run each other and the results were

Ryan-----------------Me
R/T .249 -----------.617
60' 2.159-----------2.239
330 6.140-----------6.210
1/8 9.364----------9.418
MPH 76.91----------76.94 (catching up a tad)
1000 12.112---------12.145
1/4 14.430---------14.446
MPH 96.02----------97.83

We ran against each other a couple of more times but we ran 14.5's or so with one of us winning then the other one.

Conclusion, all the dumb asses that said the 04's will be faster because torque wins races.......i think not.

All the nimrods that said the extra hp will help more than the loss of torque, you too are tools..............hahaha, JP

All in all the cars are equal, let the fighting cease

Probably in the 1/4 they are equal, but if it was a mile race or more, the 05 might pull away due to better high end power.

Just a thought.

I should also mention that Ryan did go to the track about a month ago and ran a 14.3 which I have yet to do, but it was warmer tonight so neither of us could do it.

Conditions tonight were 75degrees 61 percent humidity, barometer reading of 29.81

I've also noticed that, too. My highest trap speed is 96.96mph...that was when I ran the 14.33. When I read through the forums, it seems that everyone is trapping 98-100mph. I do not know why I trap so low...O well. But it was a fun night. Disappointing that our times didn't improve, but fun.

Times didn't improve because your cars got hot.

Yeah, heat doesn't help. But I pulled my 14.33 my last run of the night, after 4 previous runs, a few months back. It was cooler back then, though....

I thought about it but I figured we would just do worse because I'm not used to his clutch and redline. I'd probably end up hitting the rev limiter.

One thing that I really noticed was that when racing Ryan he could chirp 4th gear everytime............I don't even chirp 3rd

Thank you for settling the 1/4 mile run comparo. I'm curious how both of you would do on a street run, say from 20-130. I'm not suggesting you and Ryan go out and do anything illegal such as street racing but if you do post the results. My guess is the '05 might walk the '04 up top since you are going 1.8 MPH faster as above.

Us '05s need the extra 18hp to haul around the extra 70+ lbs...so I'm not surprised that they end up performing similarly.

But looking at the numbers, it clearly looks like you would have been ahead the entire way and won if you had managed something close to the same reaction time. Getting a late start is impossible (everything else being equal) to make up unless you have a power or weight advantage.

You managed to reel him back in from a .368 lead to just .016... ...with more weight, less TQ and only 11HP more. Certainly the performance of the two is close enough that it will always be a driver's race, as many of us have contended, but the time-slip you provided reflects performances not exactly equal. Your ride very nearly compensated for your bad reaction time. You ran a faster time when you did better on your reaction time, even though that reaction time was still slower than the '04's.

I know, the difference in performance is all academic and rarely an issue on the road. Driver ability will almost always be the deciding factor, even in car's with a 50HP difference.
